There are a ton of Technical Machines — or TMs — in Sword & Shield. There are 99 in total, one short of tying for the most of any generation. Twelve of these are Psychic-type moves, which makes this type take up more than a tenth of all available TMs. Some of them are damaging moves, others are status moves, and some have some crazy effects that make battling a much more complicated process.

Most of these TMs aren’t too hard to find, being available at different shops around Galar. If you’re looking to collect all of the TMs, here’s where you can find all of the Psychic-type TMs, and what they’ll teach your Pokémon.

12 TM17 Light Screen

The first Psychic-type TM in numerical order is Light Screen, filling the slot for TM17. Light Screen is a defensive move that doubles the special defense of all Pokemon on the same side of the field as the user for five turns, or until it’s removed by certain moves like Brick Break or bypassed by some abilities. It is essentially the special version of Reflect.

Find TM17 for sale in Motostoke’s Pokemon Center from the Poke Mart attendant on the right for 10,000 PokeDollars.

11 TM18 Reflect

Reflect takes up the slot for TM18. This move is almost the exact same as Light Screen but it doubles the physical defense of the user and its allies rather than the special defense. It also lasts for five turns and can be removed by certain moves, or bypassed by Pokemon with abilities like Infiltrator.

It’s available from the same place. Head to Motostoke and speak to the Poke Mart attendant on the right, who can sell you this TM for 10,000 PokeDollars.

10 TM21 Rest

Rest is one of the riskier moves in Pokemon, allowing you to heal your Pokemon to its maximum health and remove any non-volatile status conditions. The downside is that the user falls asleep for a few turns, leaving them vulnerable to attack.

In Sword & Shield, Rest is TM21. You can find this TM in Ballonlea. It’s northeast of the Pokemon Center near some green mushrooms.

9 TM44 Imprison

Some Pokemon moves have some very niche uses, and Imprison is definitely one of them. This move prevents the opponent from using any moves that the user also knows. It can definitely help prevent some common moves like Swords Dance or Recover from being used, which can clinch a victory in some cases.

In Sword & Shield, Imprison is TM44. There’s a TM seller at the Battle Tower in Wyndon. Among his stock is this TM, which he sells for 100,000 PokeDollars.

8 TM60 Power Swap

While you’re in Wyndon, head to the local Pokemon Center in the north end of the city. Here, you can grab a few more Psychic-type TMs. The first in numerical order is TM60 Power Swap. This TM sells for 30,000 PokeDollars.

Power Swap allows the user to swap attack and special attack stat changes (increases and decreases) with its target.

7 TM61 Guard Swap

The next TM available from this Pokemon Center is TM61 Guard Swap. Like TM60, it also sells for 30,000 PokeDollars.

Guard Swap works the same as Power Swap, but for defensive stats. When used, the user and its target swap defense and special defense stat changes.

6 TM62 Speed Swap

The third of three Psychic-type TMs available at this Pokemon Center is TM62 Speed Swap. One can probably guess its purpose after reading the past two entries: it swaps the speed stats between the user and the target. Speed stat changes are ignored, though. Unsurprisingly, it also sells for 30,000 PokeDollars.

It’s worth noting that all three of these moves are variations of the move Skill Swap, which exchanges abilities between the user and its target. This move is not available as a TM, but it is as a Technical Record — TR40 — from Watt Traders, the Cram-O-Matic, Max Raid Battles, and around the Wild Area.

5 TM69 Psycho Cut

Psycho Cut is the only damaging Psychic-type move available as a TM in Generation VIII. It is TM69 in Sword & Shield. It has a power of 70 and an accuracy rating of 100 percent. It has an increased critical hit ratio.

The TM for Psycho Cut is found on Route 2 in the northwest corner of the large lake. You’ll need to have upgraded your Rotom Bike and be able to surf to retrieve it.

4 TM70 Trick Room

Back at the TM Seller in Wyndon’s Battle Tower, you’ll find a few more Psychic-type moves for sale. The first of them is Trick Room, TM70, for sale for 50,000 PokeDollars.

Trick Room creates a strange state in the battlefield where users with lower speed stats move first. The effects last for five turns.

3 TM71 Wonder Room

A similar move to Trick Room is Wonder Room, for sale as TM71 at the TM Seller in the Battle Tower for 50,000 PokeDollars.

Wonder Room swaps the defense and special defense stats of all Pokemon on the field. Stat changes remain on their respective stats.

2 TM72 Magic Room

It seems Psychic-type TMs love to come in threes. The third of this bunch is TM72 Magic Room, also for sale in the same place for the same price as the last two — 50,000 PokeDollars from the Battle Tower’s TM Seller.

This move doesn’t affect stats like its two fellow “Room” moves, though. Magic Room prevents all Pokemon on the field from using their held items for five turns.

1 TM91 Psychic Terrain

The final Psychic-type TM is TM91 Psychic Terrain. It is sold at the Poke Mart inside the Hammerlocke Pokemon Center on the east side of town. It sells for 20,000 PokeDollars.

Psychic Terrain is a move that creates, as its name suggests, Psychic Terrain on the field for five turns. When this terrain effect is active, Pokemon touching the ground cannot be hit by increased priority moves, and the power of Psychic-type moves used by those on the ground becomes 30% stronger. Psychic Terrain also has some other minor effects for all affected Pokemon, like changing the effects of Nature Power and Secret Power, triggering the ability Camouflage, and increasing the power range of Expanding Force, to name a few.
