There are a ton of Mythical Pokémon nowadays, and they’re easier to obtain through special events than ever with the onset of the internet and online gaming. However, it can still be as frustrating as ever to try and get their shiny versions, with some of them even being shiny-locked and completely unavailable in certain games.

But, that doesn’t stop players from trying to get them however possible, because of their sheer rarity. Many of them are also really great-looking in their shiny variants, making the appeal that much more intense. Here are some of the best shiny Mythicals that are highly-coveted by players.

10 Shaymin

This small, adorable hedgehog-like Pokémon was introduced in Generation IV. It has two forms — the hedgehog-inspired Land Form and a cool Grass/Flying-type Resolute Form. Both of them share the same coloring and the same shiny coloring as well.

In both cases, Shaymin swaps its grassy green design for a turquoise one, which contrasts beautifully against the white of its main body portion. It’s a bright, cheery color that speaks to Shaymin’s connection with the sky.

9 Deoxys

The space-originated alien Pokémon Deoxys has always been a weird one. It seems to be made up of DNA glitches and tentacles and has four different forms it can transform between at will, increasing its stats to the ultimate extremes.

It’s essentially a space virus that was hit by a laser beam, according to the Pokédex. As a result, its shiny coloring fits it perfectly, being a strange, twisted shade of neon yellow with teal detailing.

8 Magearna

One of the coolest shiny Mythicals is also seemingly one of the hardest to find (and the most confusing). For a while, Magearna did not have an official shiny form, and its alternate form — Original Color Magearna — was not obtainable. This led to some confusion over its other form being its shiny coloring.

However, this is not the case. Both forms have their own shiny coloring, and both are fantastic. Regular Magearna adopts a cool silver monochromatic palette, while Original Color Magearna resembles a cool black-and-gold Art Deco motif.

To obtain the Original Color form, you need to complete the full National Pokédex in Pokémon HOME. With such a hard challenge, there are still people who confuse this form for a shiny variant. Both shiny forms are still not legally obtainable, however.

7 Hoopa Unbound

This Generation VI Mythical is very unappealing-looking normally, with its evil smile, large claws, and razor-sharp fangs. Meant to represent a cosmic trickster that basically loves being evil, resulting in it being bound into its Confined Form.

When shiny, both forms of Hoopa take on a fantastic monochromatic gold coloring, covering their entire body in what looks like gold leaf. The Unbound Form is especially great, resembling a large cosmic entity that looks like it came straight out of Sailor Moon or Primordial Chaos.

6 Celebi

The second Mythical Pokémon ever introduced was the Grass/Psychic-type Celebi, all the way back in Generation II. Meant to resemble a small forest spirit and time guardian, Celebi looks like a little green fairy. When shiny, though, Celebi takes on a cool soft pink, which speaks to its fairy-like forest connection.

Interestingly, until an event in Generation VII, shiny Celebi could not be obtained legally. Throughout Generation II to VI, shiny Celebi could not be obtained, making it a pretty fun one to find now.

5 Zeraora

One of the most recently-introduced Pokémon on this list is Zeraora, the Electric-type Mythical from Generation VII. This cat-like Pokémon is typically similar to many other Electric-types: predominantly yellow with zigzags of black all over it and sharp, angular features.

When shiny, though, Zeraora is really cool. The main yellow parts of its fur because a beautiful stark-white, and the formerly-black zigzags and lightning bolts around its detailing turn yellow. It also has blue bits on its feet, face, and stomach. The all-around color palette is great.

4 Diancie

Diancie, the Mythical Rock/Fairy-type of Generation VI, is one of those Pokémon whose design inspiration lends itself to a fantastic color palette naturally, as Diancie is modeled around gems and crystals. As a result, it has a largely pink-and-white crystalline design.

When shiny, Diancie becomes really cool. The white parts of its body and face become jet-black or a darker pink. It doesn’t just look extremely good and tie all the colors together better, it also speaks to the idea of a black crystal or diamond, which is cool to imagine.

3 Genesect

There aren’t a ton of primary-red shinies, and that’s a shame, because the few that do exist are amazing. Gyarados and Honedge are some of the only red shinies that exist, and they’re beloved by many.

Another of these cool red shinies is Genesect, the Mythical Bug/Steel-type from Generation V. Typically almost entirely purple, Genesect’s shiny form swaps the purple for a cool deep red. It makes it look evil and intense, which is fitting for this Pokémon.

2 Darkrai

Considered one of the coolest Mythical Pokémon in general, it’s no surprise that many people really love Darkrai’s great shiny coloration. Typically black as night with bits of red and white (speaking to its representation of nightmares), Darkrai is perfectly positioned for a great shiny coloring or a terrible one.

Luckily, it has the former. Darkrai’s shiny coloring swaps its black body for a dark, deep purple. It adds a bit of color to the ghostly, mysterious night-time theme of its design.

1 Meloetta

Meloetta is a Normal/Psychic or Normal/Fighting-type, depending on its form, introduced in Generation V. Meant to look like a pop singer blended with a musical staff, Meloetta is a unique and really cool design. Its Aria form is typically a light green while the Pirouette form is a dark orange.

When shiny, both of Meloetta’s forms get a lot better. Its Aria form trades the light green for a gorgeous shade of blue, and the Pirouette form trades the brownish-orange for a lovely pink. Not only are these color palettes fantastic, they look amazing with each other as well.
