Psychic-Type Pokemon have notoriously high Special Attack stats. This makes sense, as Psychic-Types tend to favor Special Attack moves, and the idea of a psychic is generally an individual who can manipulate objects and minds from afar with their own mind–think Professor X and Jean Grey of the X-Men.
Consequently, some of the heaviest Special Attack sweepers and barrier-busters in the Pokemon franchise are Psychic-Types. This brings the discussion to today’s topic: the 10 Psychic-Type Pokemon with the highest Special Attack stat. Much of the information used for this list comes from the Pokemon database, Serebii, and the organizer for much of the non-official competitive Pokemon scene, Smogon University.
10 Mega Latias
Latias is classified as the Eon Pokemon and hails from Generation III in the Hoenn Region. It is a Dragon and Psychic-Type Legendary Pokemon and is the sister of Latios. With Generation VI, specifically, the Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire remakes of the Generation III games, Latios and Latias were given Mega Evolutions. It’s this upgrade that lands Latias in this slot.
In her base form, Latias has a base Special Attack of 130 that maxes out at 394, and she sits in the UnderUsed tier in Smogon competitive play. However, with the Mega Evolution, Latias’ base Special Attack shoots up to 140 with a max of 416, and she slots in the OverUsed tier. That said, Mega Evolutions were phased out with Generation VIII and Sword & Shield.
9 Zen Mode Darmanitan
Darmanitan is a Fire-Type Pokemon that hails from Generation V and the Unova Region, and it has an Ice-Type counterpart in the Galar Region. Darmanitan is classified as the Blazing Pokemon in Unova, and it evolves from Darumaka at Level 35. However, some Darmanitans have the Hidden Ability, Zen Mode. This allows Darmanitan to transform into its Zen Mode form when its HP reaches 50%. In its Zen Mode form, Unovan Darmanitan becomes a Fire and Psychic-Type.
In its Zen Mode form, Darmanitan gets a boost to its Special Attack, reaching 140 at its base and 416 at its max. That said, both forms of Unovan Darmanitan sit in the Rarely Used tier, but it is at least still available in Generation VIII.
8 Mega Latios
Latios is the Eon Pokemon and brother to Latias. Like his sister, Latios is a Dragon and Psychic-Type Legendary Pokemon that was introduced in Generation III with the Hoenn Region. It also received a Mega Evolution with Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. In his normal form, Latios has a bast Special Attack of 130 that maxes out at 394.
However, Mega Latios has a base Special Attack of 160 which maxes out at 460. Despite that, Mega Latios sits on the border between UnderUsed and Barely Used in competitive play.
7 Mega Gardevoir
Gardevoir is the Embrace Pokemon from Generation III and the Hoenn Region. It originally was a pure Psychic-Type, but it was given the Fairy-Type as well in Generation VI. It evolves from Kirlia at Level 30 which, in turn, evolves from Ralts at Level 20. Gardevoir also received a Mega Evolution with Generation VI. In its base form, Gardevoir has a base Special Attack of 125 that maxes out at 383 and sits in the Rarely Used tier.
Mega Gardevoir’s Special Attack boosts up to a base of 165 and maxes out at 471. This also lands Mega Gardevoir in the UnderUsed and BarelyUsed tiers in Smogon.
6 Shadow Rider Calyrex
Shadow Rider Calyrex is the High King LegendaryPokemon that was introduced in Generation VIII and the Galar Region through the Crown Tundra Expansion. In its base form, Calyrex is a Psychic and Grass-Type Pokemon capable of communicating with people through telepathic possession. The player can help Calyrex by reuniting it with one of two mounts, in this case, Spectrier the Ghost-Type Pokemon, using the Reins of Unity. Shadow Rider Calyrex is a Psychic and Ghost-Type Pokemon with a monstrous Special Attack stat.
Shadow Rider Calyrex’s base Special Attack is 165 and maxes out at 471. It currently sits in the Uber tier in competitive play, a tier reserved only for the strongest of Pokemon.
5 Ultra Necrozma
Necrozma, in its base form, is a Psychic-Type Legendary Pokemon known as the Prism Pokemon. It was introduced with Generation VII in the Alola Region. However, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon introduced the ability to fuse Necrozma with either Solgaleo or Lunala. In its fused form, Necrozma, while holding Ultranecrozium Z, can use the Z-Move Light That Burns The Sky, turning Necrozma into Ultra Necrozma. This form is a Dragon and Psychic-Type Pokemon that is, unfortunately, unavailable currently in Generation VIII due to the removal of Z-Moves.
Ultra Necrozma has a base Special Attack of 167 that maxes out at 476. Ultra Necrozma and its base forms all qualify as Uber in competitive play.
4 Hoopa Unbound
Hoopa Unbound is the Legendary Djinn Pokemon that was introduced through a special event in Generation VI and the Kalos Region. In its base form, Hoopa is a Psychic and Ghost-Type Pokemon, but the Prison Bottle Key item turns Hoopa Confined into Hoopa Unbound, making it a Psychic and Dark-Type Pokemon. Unfortunately for Hoopa, it’s not currently available in Generation VIII games.
Hoopa Unbound qualifies as UnderUsed and Barely Used despite a whopping 170 base Special Attack, which maxes out at 482.
3 Mega Alakazam
Alakazam is the Psi Pokemon that originates in Generation I in the Kanto Region. It evolves from Kadabra through trade, and Kadabra evolves from Abra at Level 16. Alakazam is a pure Psychic-Type Pokemon that was given a Mega Evolution with Generation VI.
Mega Alakazam falls into the OverUsed tier in competitive play. Its base Special Attack stat is 175 and maxes out at 493.
2 Deoxys Attack Form
Deoxys is the DNA Pokemon and is a Legendary Pokemon originating from outer space. It is a pure Psychic-Type Pokemon that was initially given away through special events in Generation III and the Hoenn Region. Deoxys has the special ability to transform from its Normal Form into Speed, Defense, and Attack Forms. Its Attack Form, naturally, has the highest Special Attack stat of the bunch. Unfortunately, Deoxys isn’t currently available in Generation VIII games either.
Attack Form Deoxys’ base Special Attack is 180 and maxes out at a monstrous 504. Naturally, it falls under the Uber tier on Smogon.
1 Mega Mewtwo Y
Mewtwo is a pure Psychic-Type Legendary Pokemon that originates from Generation I and the Kanto Region. It is known as the Genetic Pokemon, as it is a clone of the Legendary Pokemon, Mew. In Generation VI, Mewtwo received two Mega Evolutions. Mega Mewtwo X focused more on physical Attack and gave Mewtwo the Fighting-Type in addition to Psychic. Mega Mewtwo Y is still a pure Psychic-Type and has the highest Special Attack in the games.
Mega Mewtwo Y is, naturally, in the Uber tier. Its base Special Attack is 194 and maxes out at 535.
