Developer Midjiwan AB, creator of The Battle of Polytopia, is investing €100,000 into Swedish company Trine, an organization that provides loans to solar energy companies in emerging markets. This is not the first investment of its type by Midjiwan AB, as they have previously invested in solar energy projects in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Pakistan, resulting in over 1,000 tons of saved CO2 emissions.
The announcement coincides with the in-game tribe named the Zebasi. All profits from the sale of Zebasi tribes become invested in loans towards solar energy projects where they are most needed. Each month has its own official tribe, and July happens to be the month of the Zebasi tribe.
Speaking about the project was General Manager Christian Lovstedt, who states that, “Any devoted Polytopia player knows that July is the Zebasi month and we are happy to announce that we are increasing our Solar Energy investments to €100.000 this year.”
The investment falls within the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which serve as a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. By working to address global challenges like poverty, inequality, climate change, peace, and more, the goal is to leave no person behind.
While it is great to see that an investment is being made towards these goals, there is always room for improvement, and everyone can do their part with something as simple as playing a board game to begin raising awareness in children.
For this, Go Goals was designed in house at the United Nation Regional Information Center. It is an easy to play, free board game available in 20 languages that teach players about the Sustainable Development Goals, introducing topics including gender, climate change, development, and other global issues.
With families around the work coping with the ongoing pandemic and stay-at-home orders, Go Goals is the perfect way to not only remain engaged and avoid boredom, but also to educate children in a simple, fun way about the long-term goals that everyone should keep in mind. The game itself is available in a simple, build-it yourself package. Readers can click here to access the free board game, and with a little printing and cutting out, a game can begin in as little as a few minutes.
