Wizkids is at it again with another Marvel HeroClix release. This time it’s for the tabletop introductory box set Marvel HeroClix Battlegrounds: Avengers vs Masters of Evil.

HeroClix is a collectible miniatures game that has spanned multiple franchises like no other. Since it’s inception as Mage Knight in 2000 and the subsequent HeroClix re-brand in 2002, it has gone on to include characters from several comic book franchises including both Marvel and DC intellectual properties. We have also seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and more. Releases usually have a starter pack to get you up and running quickly, and sealed blind bag booster packs containing additional miniatures to expand your forces.

The game is played out on a tabletop often using a map and scenario provided by a campaign book. The map is laid out with 1.5” squares making it easy for players to make their moves. Each player takes a turn and moves around the map seeking out engaging with the enemy. The winner is declared when there is only one player remaining undefeated or when the scenario objective is completed.

Pre-orders have opened for the four player starter set Marvel HeroClix Battlegrounds: Avengers vs Masters of Evil. Quite the mouthful, but players are getting great value for money. Included are 10 HeroClix collectible pre-painted figures with 20 accompanying character cards as well as a HeroClix Powers & Ability Card and two Avengers branded six-sided dice. Scenarios are run using the included campaign book, and new players will be thankful for the addition of a rule book. Finally, there are four maps and 18 object and terrain tokens.

The miniatures featured are Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain Marvel on the Avengers side. For the Masters of Evil, Mach-X, Baron Zemo, Red Skull, Winter Soldier, and Ultron make an appearance. The selection will appeal to both comic book and MCU fans with the instantly recognizable icons and we think it will be a great way to get started if you have never played before. Up to four people can play using the included contents, but we recommend adding some additional miniatures to bolster your forces if more than two are playing.

Marvel HeroClix Battlegrounds: Avengers vs Masters of Evil is due out in July 2020 and can be pre-ordered now at your local independent games store or online at the Wizkids site.
