There are many unique items and weapons in Prey that fit its futuristic survival horror universe, but the Psychoscope takes the cake as one of the most innovative items. Discovered first by Morgan Yu when they enter Psychotronics during the quest Detour, it can be found on a body located in the sewers underneath the shower rooms prior to entering the Psychotronics decontamination chamber.
The Psychoscope isn’t just a fancy way to analyze your enemies and figure out what makes them tick, although you should mainly utilize it for that to counter them. It also allows you to turn your research into Psionic aptitudes, and it can be enhanced with the installation of powerful chipsets, just like your suit. Most of the chipsets deal with Psionic abilities, making them perfect for such character builds. As with suit chipsets, these chipsets are randomly generated in set locations for each game, so keep looking and exploring.
10 Aggressor Amp 1337SI
A nice, general chipset to boost your Psionic aptitudes, it’s the perfect way to tell your Typhon enemies to stay away from you. There’s nothing more empowering in the game than finally being able to dish out the same amount of damage and carnage as the Phantoms that have been hunting you down.
This chipset gives an overall damage boost to all Psionic attacks. While the boost itself isn’t massive, the fact that it applies to all Psi attacks makes it powerful and versatile. If you find it, make sure to equip it.
9 Farscan 002SI
The main issue with the Psychoscope is getting the target of your scan in your line of sight. This can mean getting dangerously close to Typhons that would love to devour Morgan alive, rather than give them a chance to complete a full scan. That’s where a scan enhancing chipset comes in to save the day.
The Farscan chipset allows Morgan to scan targets further away. This way, Morgan can even use stealth from afar to stay hidden and scan any daunting targets like the Nightmare or Weaver to gain an upper hand on them. An honorable mention also goes to the Speedscan 001SI chipset, which will speed up the scan process.
8 ESP Targeting 163XF
What if the Psychoscope could act as a targeting system that boosts any damage to targeted enemies? Well, it’s entirely possible thanks to this chipset. Once Morgan has scanned a specific target, whether it’s a Typhon or some other enemy type on the station, that target will be more susceptible to damage.
This chipset is a very nice addition, especially when paired with scan enhancing chipsets like the Farscan or Speedscan. Finally, the Psychoscope isn’t just there for information on your enemies, but also works as an offensive tool.
7 Kinetic Amp +6QWS
Psionic aptitudes are a powerful boon for Morgan, and if that’s the character build you’re going for, chances are you’ll want to unlock the Kinetic Blast ability that most Phantoms have bullied you with since the start of the game. In fact, it’s among the best Psi attacks, so it’s recommended for any Psi-using characters.
There’s even a perfect chipset to up the damage of Kinetic Blast, making it easily one of the most powerful chipsets out there for psionic Morgans in particular. For pure, devastating damage, this is the way.
6 M3CHT3CH DX_2.0
Not every build will center around repairing objects, but it’s highly recommended to specialize in this category due to the advantages that repairing objects brings you. Morgan will unlock new recyclers and crafting machines all around the station, making it less likely for you to have to backtrack all the way just to find one.
Moreover, if you’ve opted out of Psionic aptitudes, repairing eradicator turrets is a fantastic way to demolish Typhons in combat. This chipset will lower the amount of time needed to fix any broken items, so engineer character builds should absolutely equip it as soon as possible.
5 Mimic Detection Gen 1 & 2
Ah, Mimics, the pesky annoyances that will haunt you and scare you regularly by popping out of hiding throughout the entirety of the game. The Psychoscope will make dealing with them so much more manageable, which is why these two chipsets deserve a tied mention on this list.
The Mimic Detection Gen 1 allows Morgan to detect hidden Mimics with the help of the Psychoscope. With Gen 2, this ability is extended to Greater Mimics as well, which have a larger health pool and higher damage output. They might not be Morgan’s biggest concern, but these two chipsets are a nice quality of life improvement.
4 Optimizer (Energy) 00100Z
In terms of Psionic aptitudes, what powers you pick is up to you. However, the recommended specialization is definitely in energy psi attacks, since they deal quite a bit of devastating damage. Mind control and morphing abilities are a little bit more niche, and won’t serve Morgan as efficiently.
That’s why this chipset is perfect for most generic Psi-Morgan builds. Using those Typhon abilities will cost you less once equipped, which means you’ll be using less Psi Hypos to replenish your Psi pool. It’s all about saving resources in Prey.
3 Pistol Critical++
Psionic aptitudes aside, there are some seriously good chipsets out there for character builds that prefer to do a lot of damage with firearms alone. For stealth character relying on the Silenced Pistol, there’s some good news: a perfect damage boosting chipset can be placed on the Psychoscope.
This chipset is pretty straightforward. When equipped, Morgan has a higher chance of hitting those juicy critical shots when firing with a pistol. This, on top of the stealth critical damage bonus, and the Typhon won’t be standing in your way for much longer.
2 Shotgun Critical++
If the pistol isn’t your cup of tea and you prefer up close and personal, there’s a similar chipset out there for shotguns as well. Shotguns are ideal for a tankier character build that relies on stuns like the Disruptor Stun Gun or GLOO cannon to stunlock enemies while dishing out massive damage with the wrench or with the shotgun.
Install this chipset, and Morgan will have an increased chance of hitting critical shots. You’ll still need to be in range, which in Prey means being right in your enemy’s face when firing to get the full advantage of huge damage and knockback.
1 RecoverE++ 2094I
Keeping Morgan healthy is a task of its own in Prey. Not only do the Typhons want to kill Morgan, but the environment of Talos I is quite desolate and hostile. There’s danger around every corner, from gas leaks to electrified surfaces to a Poltergeist capable of one-shotting Morgan almost instantly.
Health regeneration is, therefore, crucial. This chipset is perfect for any build, regardless of specialization, as it boosts Morgan’s health regeneration speed. Thanks to it, you’ll save up on healing resources and food.
