In Prey, Morgan’s suit is one of the first lines of defense against the hostile Typhons who have overrun Talos I. Morgan’s suit isn’t just a normal uniform, however. It sees many upgrades throughout the game, including the propulsion system that allows Morgan to jump further and navigate zero gravity outside of the station. Another way to upgrade the suit is to install suit chipsets. More chipsets will become available throughout your adventures, and more slots can be unlocked over time thanks to Neuromods.
The suit upgrades will mostly affect Morgan Yu’s health and non-Psionic abilities, but they’re still incredibly useful to players who choose to specialize in Psi. The difficulty with chipsets and finding them is that the game generates them randomly in set places each time, so it’s impossible to tell where a specific chipset will be in every game.
10 Adventurer’s Toolkit V1.X
This chipset is tied to the treasure map quest by Abigail Foy. At the end of the quest, you should have four numbers to combine into a code that gives you access to this chipset’s fabrication plan. Is it worth the grind, however? It actually is, since this chipset does multiple things rather than specializing in one area.
You’ll get more out of recycling junk or other items. Using a wrench will have a higher chance for critical hits. Your flashlight will also last longer, and you can crawl faster. It’s a great combination chipset.
9 Cell Refurb 00Q-X1
Hunting down resources is one of the toughest parts of Prey, which is why this Cell Refurb chipset will make your life ten times easier. Install it, and you’ll find more ammo for your Disruptor Stun Gun and Q-Beam whenever you loot any robotic enemies, such as hostile turrets or operators.
You might wonder if this is really worth it since the Q-Beam is a notoriously niche weapon. Ultimately, that depends on you. However, the Disruptor Stun Gun is arguably one of the best weapons in the game, and extremely versatile in use as well. Having this chipset to loot for ammo for the stun gun alone is worth it.
8 Integral Structor B5NM
As you travel through Talos I, you’ll come across a ton of different environmental hazards on top of the hostile Typhons. Whether it’s fire or electricity, it can be pretty tiring and annoying to deal with the station falling apart while running away from powerful and bloodthirsty Typhons.
This chipset gives Morgan’s suit a nice boost and will save you from using too many Suit Repair Kits to patch it up on to go. Morgan’s suit will be far stronger against any environmental hazards, which means you’ll have more time to focus on those pesky Mimics and Phantoms rather than your suit’s integrity.
7 V-AMP .23
The stealthy route is one of the best ways to survive through Prey. In fact, with powerful Neuromod upgrades and massive damage bonuses available for stealth builds, it’s highly recommended to make Morgan Yu into a stealth specialist.
To help with this build, this chipset is absolutely perfect. Whenever Morgan does a sneak attack, some of their health will be restored. This is incredibly helpful, especially since healing items are few and far between, and Morgan will have to rely on consumable items like food and water from water fountains.
6 Heavy Gear Optimizer Cru
Don’t underestimate the power of good movement speed in Prey. Many attacks can be dodged easily, but Morgan’s slowness when wielding certain weapons like the GLOO cannon or the Q-Beam can make it feel like you’re wading through syrup. Thankfully, this chipset fixes that to a degree.
On top of upgrading the weapons themselves that allow Morgan to move more while firing the GLOO cannon or the Q-Beam, this chipset also improves movement speed significantly. It’s particularly useful against Phantoms and Mimics early on in the game.
5 Impact AMP S-390
The wrench is your bread and butter when it comes to raw damage, at least until you get your hands on a shotgun or silenced pistol. Even then, using the wrench is far more preferable because of how rare ammo is in the game. As such, you’ll want to get the most damage out of your wrench.
This chipset will have you always reaching for your wrench first. If it’s equipped, attacking an enemy with a wrench will have a far bigger chance of also pushing them back, which can be quite useful against bigger enemies like Phantoms. Pair that with the GLOO cannon, and you’re golden.
4 Polyshield Cru
Any type of damage reduction applied to Morgan is generally a good thing, which is why this chipset is a no-brainer. Most of Morgan’s enemies powerful and well-prepared, so keeping your health up is important given also how difficult it is to heal fast to full health.
This chipset will instantly reduce incoming physical damage to Morgan by 20%, which is fairly significant. Less damage means you survive for longer, and surviving longer means beating your enemies faster.
3 Prowl S-6400
If you’re considering a stealth build for Morgan but despise how slow it feels to sneak around, rest assured there are ways to remedy that. Not only can Neuromods fix this, but this specific chipset can as well. Moving faster while sneaking allows you to take cover faster and avoid your enemies’ line of sight easier.
This chipset gives a nice boost to Morgan’s movement speed while sneaking. Pair that up with the damage bonus from stealth attacks and Morgan will be unstoppable, even if Psionic abilities haven’t been unlocked.
2 Kinesthetic Assister Cru
It’s not just stealth that can make a huge difference in the game, but stamina as well. Morgan already has a fairly impressive stamina pool at the beginning of the game, and typically you won’t have a hard time running away from your enemies. However, any additional help is always a good thing.
This chipset is a simple boost to your stamina regeneration rate. Running for longer amounts of time can be a huge relief during times when you’re trying to dodge or get away from enemies that attempt to overwhelm you.
1 Backlash Reactor S-P58
Backlash is one of the few Psionic aptitudes that suit chipsets can boost. In order to unlock all of its tiers, you’ll need to scan the Nightmare or a Weaver several times. Backlash is essentially a type of shield which can soak up any incoming damage, as well as push back enemies that touch it.
This chipset brings it up to a whole new level, however. Now, the backlash can even randomly reflect any incoming damage back on to the enemy. This is the ultimate Phantom repellant.
