It’s unusual for a remake to be so drastically delayed as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Originally shown last September, Ubisoft intended to release the game in early 2021. Then it was delayed to March, and then indefinitely. Now we’re finally getting a soft release window sometime in 2022, and Ubisoft isn’t even confident enough to showcase the game at this year’s E3 presentation.
“As you might have already read, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will not be in Ubisoft Forward,” the French developer wrote in an official statement. “We are making great progress for our game to release next year, but we are not ready to share any additional information just yet. We will share an update as soon as we are ready.”
Just as earlier this year, Ubisoft provided no reason for the delay. However, fans criticized the September trailer for not providing enough of a visual upgrade over the original game to warrant bothering with a remake, so it seems likely that Ubisoft has taken Prince of Persia back to the drawing board to provide it with more impressive visuals. Perhaps even a ray tracing upgrade for current-gen consoles.
Ubisoft Forward will kick off E3 2021 at 12 PM PST (3 PM EST) and bring big announcements for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Brawhalla, Rainbow Six Siege, Watch Dogs: Legion, For Honor, Trackmania, and The Crew 2, along with a renaming ceremony for what was previously called Rainbow Six Quarantine. We’ll also get more details on the upcoming Far Cry 6 and Riders Republic.
Ubisoft also mentioned a few “surprises,” and one of those might have just leaked. “Battlecat” appears to be a game combining Splinter Cell, The Division, and Ghost Recon into a PvP online hero shooter featuring operators from each of the three games. Leaked images have fans concerned it’ll be just another mobile title like Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad, which didn’t exactly thrill.
