NIS America has announced that Prinny 1-2: Exploded and Reloaded will be heading to Switch this October. North America will be getting the game on October 13, Europe on October 16, and Australia on October 23. A remaster/compilation package of two PSP titles, players can expect a ton of content should they end up nabbing the game.
If it wasn’t evident from the title, both of these Disgaea spin-offs will be included with all of their DLC on a single cartridge. The remaster is only heading to Switch, but may eventually make the jump to PC if it proves successful. To entice you to pre-order, NIS has a limited edition package called the “Just Desserts Edition.” This will include a physical copy of the game, an art book based around titular character Prinny’s memories, an “Awesome Mix” soundtrack, a poster for Asagi Wars, and a Nanoblock “Can I Really be a Prinny Block?” figurine.
Along with the announcement of the release date, NIS America has uploaded some footage from the first Prinny game, Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? Surprisingly, it seems like nothing has been done to update the graphical presentation, though those sprites look sharp as hell.
For those unaware, Prinny is something of a sidekick/joke character within the Disgaea series. After years of being a fan favorite, he was given a chance to star in this own game in 2008. This was followed a few years later by a sequel, also released for Sony’s handheld device. Until the announcement of this Switch port, both games had remained locked to the PSP for the last decade.
Reviews for the original versions are mixed-to-positive. Fans really dig what NIS makes, but critics weren’t so hot on the titles. I’ve never personally played them, but I do like the Prinny character. Now that they are on a system people actually own, I might finally give this spin-off a try.
The October release date gives this a great chance to shine. With the big summer releases out of the way and the next-gen consoles not yet available, this could fill in the gap before the release of the PS5/Xbox Series X quite well.
