Since Covid-19 activated its Trap Card on the world, we’re all battling on and trying to settle into some kind of work routine. The virus continues to impact everything we hold dear, even including the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime.

So far, 2020 has kind of been the year that wasn’t. In the entertainment world, movies haven’t shown in theaters, the once-mighty E3 suffers another blow as it’s been canceled this June and the fate of the next few months’ Nintendo Directs hangs in the balance. The gaming industry is pulling together and doing some sterling work, in terms of fundraising and other supportive initiatives, but the light at the end of the tunnel certainly looks far away at times.

In the interim, shows, events, and more continue to be canceled or postponed, as companies do their very best to remain safe. As Anime News Network reports, these concerns have caused Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens, the series’ latest anime, to cease production for the time being.

The much-anticipated new anime revolves around elementary school student Yūga Ōdō, the usual blend of friends and rivals and their life in a town named Gōha. Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens will surely return when the team can safely make it so, but until then, reruns on TV Tokyo (and beyond) will run from May 9. As the new show only began its run on April 4, it’s a shame that it barely got into its stride, everybody’s safety must come first. Here’s hoping that Sevens and its funky Rush Duel style will be back on screens soon.
