Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to access Project xCloud starting on September 15.
“Beginning September 15, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can play more than 100 games from the cloud on their Android phone or tablet,” the Xbox team revealed via a recent blog post. “Cloud gaming will launch in beta for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in 22 markets to ensure stability as we scale the feature to millions of gamers.”
As Microsoft notes, the release of Project xCloud via the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan will be introduced as a beta, which means that early participants may have to navigate a few learning curves. Still, the plan is for even this early version of Project xCloud to allow you to access various Xbox features (such as friends lists, achievements, controller settings, and saves) via a mobile device.
Of course, the big news here is that Project xCloud will allow you to play various Xbox and PC games on your phone or tablet. Specifically, you’ll be able to play these Xbox and PC games when Project xCloud is made available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subsribers:

While Microsoft says that they intend to expand the Project xCloud library as the service evolves, you can see that even the initial offerings allow you to access quite a few hit titles right away. To help you play some of those games on phones and tablets, Microsoft has even released a new line of accessories that will offer console-like controls for mobile devices. They even note that you can use “your Xbox One Bluetooth Wireless and PlayStation DualShock 4 controllers.”
The expansion of Project xCloud via the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service is not only an impressive technical accomplishment, but it speaks to both the potential of cloud gaming in the future and how Microsoft remains more committed than ever to ensuring that Game Pass becomes the future of the Xbox brand.
