After all this time, all of this wait, and all of the hype, the next generation of video game consoles is quickly approaching. It’s been far too long in the eyes of many gamers since Sony and Microsoft brought out new home consoles, but that’ll all change later this year when the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One hit retailers. Consumers will be chomping at the bit to get their hands on either console, and in some cases both, but those interested in scoring these platforms may want to throw down their money soon if they’re hoping to get a PS4 or Xbox One on launch day.
The official statement from GameStop to Game Informer reads:
From the sounds of it, the Xbox One can still be pre-ordered from the retailer, but odds are that won’t be an option all that much longer — especially for those hoping to score the Day One Edition of the console. Given the controversial restrictions that were initially in place for Microsoft’s upcoming platform, it isn’t surprising to hear that the PS4 was the first to reach its pre-order limitations at GameStop.
“Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4.”
That said, the console war is far from over, and it’ll be interesting to see just how much of an impact the $100 price difference between the two systems will make this Holiday season.

Xbox One will be launching this November, while the PlayStation 4’s launch window is currently set to Holiday 2013.
