The PlayStation 5 is perhaps the largest home console ever made, according to one Redditor that compiled a size comparison.

We finally got to see the PlayStation 5 last week, and it certainly looked like an impressive piece of hardware. Ice cream sandwich comparisons aside, the PS5 has the same cutting-edge look as the DualSense controller, with a dash of Alienware cool on the side.

What we didn’t get from Sony is a price or any other official stats, such as overall size. There wasn’t even a banana for scale.

Not to worry. Where Sony fails, eagle-eyed Redditors provide. We have user GREBO7 to thank for this composite image comparing the PS5 to the Xbox Series X and other recent consoles to see just what sort of beast we’re dealing with.

Using USB and disk drive sizes as anchor points (since they’re both standard and unchanging between devices), GREBO7 was able to make a general comparison between each console in terms of overall size. What we see is that the PS5 literally towers over every other console of the last few generations, although it still seems to lose out to the Xbox Series X in terms of overall heft.

Comparing the PS5 to the PS3, which clocked in at around 14 inches, we see that the PS5 is at least 15 inches (38.1 cm) tall and maybe even a little taller than that. Some enclosed media centers are going to have a tough time fitting the PS5 when it comes out, and we suspect there’s going to be some emergency Ikea orders to go along with the PS5’s launch.

This side-by-side comparison also makes it obvious how Sony has adopted the hourglass shape that used to be exclusive to the Xbox 360. Meanwhile, Microsoft has gone all-in on the simple box architecture that leaves no question that what’s inside is just a fancy computer.
