Once registered, users are given a warm thank you and a wish of luck, as only a handful of “consumers” will be gifted that holy grail of initial PS5 preorders.
With still no word yet on a price, Sony continues to build up its next-gen console with ease and anticipation. The aptly titled PlayStation 5 Direct Preorders page reads:
The site’s debut lands not long after a brand new Sony console ad, which focuses on the major next-gen changes taking place in the hardware - namely the “feeling” of it all. Plus, it also arrives on the doorstep of Gamescom, wherein some gameplay of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is bound to make a splask, as it remains arguably one of the only true next-gen showcases seen thus far. Also of note is that Metro developer 4A games has expressed excitement for PS5’s raytracing feature, claiming that it will help achieve a “true generational leap.”
“There will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order, so we will be inviting some of our existing consumers to be one of the first to pre-order one from PlayStation.
Pre-order reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, so once you can an invite via email, we encourage you to follow instructions and act fast.”
In the midst of it all, rumors of a September 9 PS5 preorder launch date take form. This date marks the 25th anniversary of the original PlayStation console’s US launch. And, November draws even closer now even with a highly anticipated Black Ops followup shown off in all of its glory via PS5 capture.
The anticipation to experience this so-called “play has no limits” ratchets to its highest and the momentum for Sony only intensifies, despite there being no tangible preorder in sight.
