Fans may not have to wait long for official news about the PS5 reveal event, suggests a new comment made by Sony on social media. Sony announced that it would be delaying the PS5 reveal event in the wake of global protests against racial injustice and police brutality, saying that the decision would allow “more important” voices to be heard.
Those who visit the YouTube video for the PS5 reveal event teaser will spot that Sony has changed its description. The description now says that “this event has been postponed” and that the company will “be in touch with a new date soon.” While some fans will be glad to know that they may not have to wait long to watch the rescheduled event, the update is a teaser for a reveal date of a reveal date.
Many fans, though disappointed, supported Sony’s decision to delay the PS5 event and respect the seriousness of the Black Lives Matter protests. The PS5 reveal event also isn’t the only event to have been affected by them. CD Projekt RED confirmed that it would be delaying the Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire event by several weeks in support for the movement. The consensus on social media seems to be that these gaming companies are doing the right thing.
However, there is also some amount of frustration that Sony has waited so long to provide fans with more information about the console. One report suggested that Sony had delayed the PS5 event several times this year as the company was concerned about it having a “work from home” quality and it wanted something more of a studio broadcast level.
Not much has been confirmed about the PS5 and fans had thought that the reveal event would provide more information, Sony has shared details about the PS5 DualSense controller, the console’s specs and there have been a couple of trailers for PS5 launch title Godfall. In comparison, Microsoft has revealed the Xbox Series X design, several of its features, and games and there are plans to share more information in June and July.
If the PS5 reveal event does provide confirmations about rumored PS5 games Horizon Zero Dawn 2, God of War 2, and a new Bluepoint Games remaster then fans may not be as upset about being kept to wait. Until then though, fans are looking for Sony to reveal more about its reveal plans.
