The console wars are as old as consoles themselves. Now with the next generation of Xbox and PlayStation consoles on the horizon, the rivalry between Microsoft and Sony fans is hotting up and so are the memes. The upcoming generation of consoles is more powerful than ever before. They are also more memeable, thanks in part to their interesting designs.

Since the first announcements, both the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5 have been providing gamers with meme-worthy content. While we’re glad the space station toilet design didn’t make the final cut, the finished products are still hilarious as these Xbox Series X Vs PS5 memes show.

10 Sony Love Their Audio

When the consoles were first being unveiled earlier this year the differences were stark. While Microsoft presented us with images of the Xbox Series X early on, Sony decided to talk about ears, a lot.

We should have realized when we were told that the epic PS5 event would be two hours long and that wearing headphones would allow viewers to get the most out of the “cool audio work.” While it’s great that Sony wants to “enhance the sensory experience” we were really just looking for reassurance that the console didn’t actually look like a toilet seat.

9 The Xbox Bin Series

Memes about the Xbox Series X’s appearance are common but there are some that specifically used it to poke fun at the PS5. Here we can see the console compared to a wastebasket with the trash bag added for extra effect.

This meme could have gone either way with a comment about the Series X being garbage inside but instead, the meme maker declared the “trash can” a suitable place to house a PS5.

8 A Table For The PS5

Not to be outdone by the Xbox Bin, this meme prefers to see the Xbox as a high tech table. The image adds a nice glass tabletop to Microsoft’s console and declares it a suitable place to store a PS5, the “console king.”

While the idea is great, we’re not sure that a short glass table is the wisest of storage places for Sony’s console, although it’s at least more practical than housing it in a small trash can.

7 Toaster, Wifi Router Or Fridge?

The latest consoles from Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft all have designs that are easy to make fun of. While our ice cream sandwich theory may not have held up, the common comparisons are perfectly shown above.

The PS5 router is a solid meme but it’s the Xbox Series X fridge that has really taken off. Not only did Aaron Greenburg make a joke about it in the Series X presentation, but Microsoft has also made an actual Xbox fridge. Snoop Dogg was gifted one for his birthday, and gamers have also been given the chance to win one.

6 Sim City Consoles

Game reviewer LGR chose to go retro with his comparison, using Sim City buildings to highlight the differences between the consoles. We can see the sturdy but dull black office building representing the Xbox Series X, while the PS5 is represented by the futuristic-looking white buildings that are found later in the game.

We’re not entirely sure if the comparison is supposed to imply that the Xbox is a dull but reliable building with sturdy foundations, while the PS5 is a modern but slightly terrifying-looking alternative, but we love the comparison regardless.

5 That Controller’s Wearing A Spaghetti Strap Top

Taking a break from comparisons of the consoles themselves, this meme focuses on the PS5 controller. The math shows us that if you take an Xbox Series S controller and add a spaghetti strap top you’ll get the PS5 controller.

There are also suggestions that the PS5 controller is wearing a sports bra but these are currently unconfirmed.

4 I Love My Brick

This meme may be lost on some gamers due to its image being taken from cult UK show Father Ted, but the sentiment is universal. The image is of Father Jack who has a brick that he keeps with him at all times. He often says “I love my brick” and here the phrase is used to describe Xbox fans.

Traditionally Xbox designs have always been chunkier and more brick-like than their PlayStation equivalents and this generation widens that gap since the Series X is actually brick-shaped.

3 Consoles As Cars

Here we can see the next generation of consoles compared to cars. The PS5 appears as a super slick BMW sports car, while the Xbox Series X is a chunky 4-wheel drive all-terrain Mercedes.

You can read a lot into this meme, depending on which side of the debate you fall on. Is the Xbox reliable and versatile, rather than expensive and frivolous? Is the PS5 a desirable joy, while the Xbox is simply a workhorse? You decide.

2 Spongebob Xbox Vs Yu-Gi-Oh!-PS5

In another comparison meme, animated shows are used to portray the new consoles. The Xbox Series X sees itself as Spongebob Squarepants, with a little adjustment. Everyone’s favorite Krabby Patty chef has his unique shape replicated in Microsoft’s design.

Meanwhile, Sony’s PS5 is put up against Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonist Seto Kaiba. The anti-hero is the CEO of KaibaCorp, a large multi-national gaming conglomerate. Make of that what you will.

1 Perfectly Balanced

This final meme shows a poll regarding the different gaming options. The choices are Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and “PC 2.” Each option has 33% exactly, showing a perfect split between PS5 fans, Xbox lovers, and PC enthusiasts. As Thanos himself says this poll shows everything perfectly balanced. While there will always be friendly rivalry this poll shows that there is room for all in the console wars.

Of course, it may also show that Microsoft is winning, since we’re pretty certain many of those players eagerly awaiting “PC2” are running Windows on their gaming machines. One thing we do know is that if the consoles are as good as the memes the next generation is going to be a good one.
