Microsoft usually runs different promotions to give free games to its players, such as the Games With Gold program that dishes out a handful of games each month. Somethings though, there can be pricing errors or unannounced promotions that gift some lucky players free games and that might be what happened recently with the quirky platformer, Psychonauts.
Psychonauts is an iconic game that graced the original Xbox back in 2005. Players assumed the role of Raz who found himself jumping into people’s minds to figure out and help each person with some kind of issue. Psychonauts developer, Double Fine, was recently bought by Microsoft and joined the line up of Xbox Game Studios.
Whether through price error or secret promotion, some Xbox gamers were able to claim a free copy of Psychonauts for the Xbox One. The game was just marked as “free” in the store and through a few button clicks was available for players. No announcement was made of the promotion nor is the game showing in Xbox Game Pass, so it is to be assumed this was an error. To back up that thinking, the “promotion” is no longer going as Psychonauts is now listed on the Xbox Store for $9.99 and can no longer be claimed for free.
Xbox fans may have been jumping on the chance to play Psychonauts for free as Double Fine is currently developing the long-awaited sequel, Psychonauts 2. Recently, Psychonauts 2 resurfaced at the Xbox Games Showcase to debut a new trailer featuring actor, singer, and video game lover, Jack Black.
Psychonauts is available for PC, PS2, and Xbox.
