PlayerUknown’s Battlegrounds was one of the first games to popularize the battle royale genre and has retained a loyal fanbase ever since. Many players still rate PUBG as one of the best in its genre and it seems that the team behind the game is still adding to the experience. The latest update will add bots into the console experience, but rather than buffing numbers it is intended to decrease the learning curve for new players.

While the battle royale genre is increasingly saturated PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds remains one of the most popular games in the world. Players have remained entertained through a constant stream of updates as well as more realistic gameplay than a lot of its competition. While some players may be worried about the inclusion of bots in a game that pits players against each other in an increasingly small area, this update promises not to impact skilled gamers.

Update 7.1 is implementing bots to combat the issue of newcomers dying almost immediately in games or not having the experience they would like. The bots will be able to navigate the complex environments in the game through navigation meshes. The bots are also said to be able to “consider” how they shoot opponents which will be interesting to see and it may be a game-changer if it can be done correctly as most games use probability with their non-playable character shooting. Finally, the PUBG team is promising balanced loot from these bots in order to give players something for killing them but not so much that the game becomes unbalanced. The inclusion of these bots will be dependant on the player’s track record, but it may help those who are currently struggling.

Many players will hope that the latest PUBG update will also address issues in gameplay. It will be interesting to see how players respond to the updates and whether issues are completely rectified. What is clear, is that adding bots is a significant change and they will have to operate well to add to the experience rather than being a simple way for players to get simple rewards without improving their skills.

There seems to be plenty on the horizon for PUBG and it will be fascinating to see how one of the pioneers of the battle royale genre continues to innovate. In the meantime, newcomers can prepare for future changes to the game by honing their skills with the help of bots.
