The insanely successful PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is about to get a pretty big update. Coming next week on July 22, 2020, the next competitive season of everyone’s third-favorite battle royale shooter will be starting and will bring with it a remastered version of the Sanhok map. The third additional map introduced a few years back, it left standard rotation to get polished up. Now, players will be able to experience it for the first time again.

A thread over on the Steam community forums goes over all of the cosmetic and structural changes that Sanhok will feature. I can’t say I’m particularly familiar with the original layout, but I do know that it was a smaller map after the two previously massive ones. It created shorter, more intense matches that shook up the general feel of PUBG, which was a direct response to Fortnite’s burgeoning success.

For changes that I can speak about, a new Loot Truck is being added to Sanhok. In what is likely inspired by Fortnite’s balloon drops, these new vehicles will be AI-controlled armored cars that players can attempt to rob. As you attack the truck, it will drop higher-tiered loot that can give you an edge in combat. You’ll draw the attention of surrounding foes, so you’ll need to weigh the odds of direct confrontation should the truck not contain anything decent.

If all of these gameplay additions weren’t enough to get you interested, a brand new battle pass is being introduced for this new season. Dubbed the “Survivor Pass: Payback,” players that buy into the pass will be able to earn 100 new skins while completing challenges on Sanhok. Special missions will give you increased XP and you can earn new weapon skins and face paint options just by playing.

As is typical with previous seasons, the test servers will be populated with this new content a week ahead of time. You’ll be able to try out the Sanhok changes and additions on July 15, 2020. There’s no word on whether or not these changes will be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One ports soon. They will likely find their way over in due time.
