TAEGO is coming soon to PUBG, and this new 8x8 km map is bringing more than just a new locale to murder people in. The latest teaser trailer showcases a whole bunch of new stuff, including what might be a self-revive.
For the analysis, we turn to the infamous PUBG dataminer PlayerIGN (via PCGamesN), the same guy who leaked the existence of Gulag Island just last week. PlayerIGN broke down the 14-second trailer with several screenshots pointing out all the new features, such as a new vehicle, two new weapons, a new airdrop type, and yes, a new self-pickup.
It’s not entirely clear how the self-pickup works or even if it is a self-pickup at all. The teaser just shows a guy on his knees holding his stomach while a blow glow suffuses him, but if not a self-revive, what else could it be?
Another interesting point for the trailer is the influx of Korean items. Two new Korean firearms–the K2 Assault Rifle and the K12 DMR–are coming with TAEGO, as well as the Hyundai Pony Coupe vehicle. Krafton has remained mostly hands-off for PUBG development, but it seems the Korean games holding company is exerting at least some influence.
PlayerIGN is also the same dataminer who leaked the existence of Gulag Island, a new area where players fight for one last chance at getting back into a battle royale match in progress. PUBG Corp confirmed the existence of a revival system similar to Warzone’s Gulag in the same blog post that revealed two new maps coming this year, but the developer never gave any details on exactly how this revival system would work.
If it’s anything like Warzone, players will face off in 1v1 matches with the winner being air-dropped back onto the field, while the loser is eliminated for good.
TAEGO is set to arrive first on PC on July 7, and then on consoles on July 15.
