Quantic Dream is no stranger to reeling players in to their made-up world and story, making them feel every bit of emotion their characters do. This is bound to create bonds and love between characters and players. Especially when the characters are so real that they become relatable.
There are plenty various NPCs and characters that could be noted throughout all of Quantic Dream’s games, but only a handful actually make it to the fandom world with guts and glory.
10 Tyler (Fahrenheit)
The oldest, most known interactive story Quantic Dream created involved one killer and two detectives. One of those detectives was Tyler Miles. The story is serious, dark, cryptic and confusing. Tyler’s partner, Carla, is determined and headstrong in her work. Things are ominous.
But Tyler on the other hand, he is carefree and outgoing. Always ready to make jokes, dress in bright colors, and have fun. This is a breath of fresh air that makes him a likable character in the game.
9 Navajo Family (Beyond Two Souls)
On the run and stressed out, Jodie seeks shelter and a ride, but only finds an isolated ranch. At first Paul’s family seems weary of a random stranger begging to stay in their house, but Paul is kind and helps those who deserve it when he can.
The family invited Jodie into their home and did not meet her with the same distaste upon learning about Aiden because they are a family who has dealt with spirits for centuries. They understand spirits and appreciate Jodie’s help. Standoffish at first, the family is one of the fan favorites because they are respectable and have values.
8 The Homeless (Beyond Two Souls)
Jodie has been through hell and back from the beginning of the game (and beginning of her life) to the end of it. With countless amounts of abusive and unjust people hurting her everywhere she goes, players love to see a quiet place in time where the people around Jodie are caring and understanding.
Homeless people, whether in video games or in real life, come from a wide range of different backgrounds that left them in the current position that they are in. They all have different stories, previous lives, and internal struggles. Because of this they bane no ignorance nor prejudice and share what they can. A heartwarming moment for players and Jodie.
7 Aiden (Beyond Two Souls)
Beyond Two Souls is about playing as both Jodie and her twin in spirit, Aiden. The player doesn’t only experience Jodie. Aiden is there the entire time and the player gets to control him in hopes to protect Jodie (or embarrass her).
He is essentially a big, protective brother always watching. Though it may be easy for players to forget they are playing as him and not themselves, they feel the same urgency and need to protect her from ignorant people who will do her harm. Playing as a protector forms a tether not only to Jodie and Aiden but to the player and Jodie.
6 Alice (Detroit: Become Human)
What’s not to love and cherish about an innocent little child caught in dangerous, political times where people are out to kill those she loves and maybe even herself?
Like any young child that players are forced to take care of in a video game where survival is a must, she is helpless and only has the player to protect her. Whether the player likes kids are not, no innocent being deserves suffering. Fans strive to protect Alice in life and death.
5 Madison Paige (Heavy Rain)
A badass woman who can take a few punches and will do anything to help those she loves and to do the right thing. Strong female leads have been much needed in the video game world, what with the world having been dominated by male leads alone. Madison was minding her business but decided to do the right thing and ended up falling in love.
Yes, many fans do like her simply because she is an attractive pack of pixels, but also because of her written character and what she brings for Ethan in his time of dire need. Madison proves to everyone countless times that she can hold her own.
4 Luther (Detroit: Become Human)
What could have turned into a stereotypical take on a large POC man was turned into something so much more. Luther was scary at first due to his immense size compared to anyone else in the room and due to the fact that he was serving a dangerous man.
Players’ feelings changed when he broke free from the tight grip of human programming and decided to help and protect Kara and Alice. Luther quickly became a fan favorite that everyone could turn to for care and protection.
3 Hank (Detroit: Become Human)
A grumpy, alcoholic detective with anger and resentment inside him that he takes out on everyone. A trope everyone loves because these cops always end up being a big, loving bear that just needed to open up. That needed the right person to open them up.
Quantic Dream is exceptional at creating real characters that feel alive and that develop themselves, whether it’s for the better or worse. Players feel that in Hank and especially with his relationship with Connor.
2 Norman Jayden (Heavy Rain)
Norman Jayden is somewhat of a predecessor to Connor. Before Detroit: Become Human was a thing, Norman Jayden had the fandom’s hearts as the endearing boy of the franchise.
Perhaps the attraction the fandom feels for him is odd and can’t be directly placed, but he is a fun character to jump to amidst Ethan’s troubles and Scott Shelby’s shenanigans.
1 Connor (Detroit: Become Human)
Connor is like a puppy dog. Bright-eyed, curious, and ready to try his best to help people and solve cases. His behavior is endearing because he seems naive yet willing to help. If this doesn’t attract a bunch of loving fans, what does?
Everyone wants to hate him but can’t help but love him secretly. With a tough-love man by his side, the two are unstoppable in the endearing and funny department.
