Bugsnax came out alongside the PS5. Though a PS4 version is also available, PlayStation plus subscribers received the game for free if they managed to nab the next-generation console. The cartoonish game throws numerous curve balls at players, giving them way more than they bargained for.

What starts out as a cutesy puzzle adventure turns into something way darker and thought provoking. By the end of the journey, players have so many questions about the plot, the characters, and the world where Bugsnax takes place. If a sequel never comes to fruition, we may never receive any definitive answers. Be aware of spoilers ahead.

10 How Long Can Bugsnax Live Without Hosts?

The big twist after finally finding Lizbert is the revelation of Bugsnax’s true nature. The animals are parasites who thrive off the people who come to the island. This begs the question; how long can these strange creatures live without a host? We do not know if other explorers were here before ancient grumps, so what is the point of having hosts if they seem to do just fine without them.

9 Are Lizbert And Eggabell Still Alive?

Upon finding Lizbert in her transmogrified state, Eggabell opts to join her instead of leaving the island with the rest of the Grumpuses. The two keep Snaktooth Island stable enough to ensure everyone else’s safe escape. The final postcard during the credits shows the two gazing at the sun together in their normal bodies, but this is in no way confirming they are still alive. It may be a more symbolic image. Wherever they are, at least the two are together.

8 Who Was The Voice In The Credits

Some games have small teases after the credits. It is easy to sit through them in Bugsnax due to Kero Kero Bonito’s infectiously catchy theme song. The last moments showcase a dialogue between the Clumby and a mysterious, unnamed voice. The two discuss your character’s story and agree to keep an eye on Filbo and the protagonist. Who was this voice, and what is their involvement with the parasitic creatures?

7 Are There More Islands Like Snaktooth?

One has to wonder if Snaktooth is the only area where Bugsnax exist. The world is a large place, and plenty of uncharted areas very well may hold more Bugsnax just waiting for more unsuspecting settlers to feast upon.

Snaktooth is one giant Bugsnax, so it feels like these parasites are not just looking for Grumpuses as hosts, but are also intent on feeding of the entire world. Whatever the case, more Bugsnax means more problems.

6 Did Humans Ever Exist?

Bugsnax takes place in a world extremely different than ours. Humans are not the dominant life form, and instead civilization is run by Grumpuses. They are intelligent,  humanoid, and speak English with different slang. One has to wonder if humans ever existed in this world, and what happened to them. Considering how weird the game’s ending gets, we would not be surprised if future Bugsnax stories dealt with this idea.

5 How Does Wiggle Play A String Instrument With Her Paws

Grumpus civilization is much like ours, including music. How do these animals make music similar to humans if they all have paws? One of the characters, Wiggle, is a famous pop star and is always seen with a string instrument. How does she even play it without fingers? You’ve never seen a cat or dog play guitar, so the Grumpus species should not be able to play instruments the same way as humans.

4 How Do Bugsnax Know What Pizzas Are?

The whole concept of Bugsnax is weird and has a few logical fallacies. How do these parasites know about all these modern foods like Pizzas and sandwiches? Do they somehow read Grumpus minds and know what the settlers find appetizing, or are they given this information by outside sources? The post-credits sequence seems to hint at some organization working in favor of Bugsnax, so this could be how they know what cookies and soda cans are.

3 Will There Be A Sequel?

Developer Young Horses has only a couple of games under their belt. Before Bugsnax the team released Octodad: Dadliest Catch, a sequel to a browser-based game.

While Bugsnax tells a complete story, it also introduces gamers to a new world with numerous possibilities. Mysteries are still hanging in the air after the credits roll, so Young Horses could absolutely make a sequel. However, an equally original idea would be just as welcome.

2 What Do Grumpuses Want With Bugsnax?

The final moments reveal a bigger conspiracy behind Bugsnax. The mysterious voice and Clumby seem to be on the side of Bugsnax, or at least they want to confirm their existence to further their own agenda, whatever that may be. Do Clumby and the mysterious voice know what Bugsnax are capable of, or are they trying to control a power they do not understand? One Bugsnax appeared to stowaway with the settlers who escaped, so these shadowy people might have a chance to see their goals come true.

1 Why Are They Hard To Catch?

If Bugsnax live off hosts, why are they so hard to catch? Is there something deeper to their motivations than simply living off those who find Snaktooth Island? While they are parasites, maybe they are more concerned with being left alone than finding sustenance from settlers. When no settlers are on the island, what do Bugsnax eat? One would think they would do all in their power to get eaten and slowly take over the host one Bugsnax at a time.
