Rachael McAdams has expressed her interest in reprising her role as Regina George in a Mean Girls sequel. McAdams shared how she would be keen to explore where Regina is at a later stage in her life during a COVID-19 charity live stream.
When a fan asked her if she would want to portray Regina once more, McAdams explained how much fun it would be for her to once again inhabit that role, and to discover where Regina is as a person and what she may be doing later on in life.
McAdams has previously shared her interest in reuniting with her Mean Girls co-stars. Back in 2016, she noted how they were all brought together to take part in a reunion photoshoot. To her, however, that time simply wasn’t enough, suggesting she would love to spend even more time with them by bringing the gang back together for a potential sequel. When it comes to where she believes Regina would be in life, she shared how she probably “had a few babies who were plotting your demise in the womb.”
A sequel to the hit 2004 movie was released back in 2011. Despite being called Mean Girls 2, however, the follow-up featured new characters with Tim Meadows’ Principal Duvall being the lone returning cast member from the first movie. The original movie has also been adapted into a Broadway show by original writer Tina Fey. There are plans in place to now adapt musical into a movie.
Mean Girls is available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and streaming platforms.
