Raft is a survival game, which means players will need to come prepared if they want to finish the game’s story. The game starts out by dropping the player on a four-square raft in the middle of the ocean, with no island in sight. The player is helplessly drifting through garbage, with only a hook for gathering it in their hand. By gathering the drifting debris, though, the player can expand the raft and start to build a life of the water-covered world they have been thrust into.
There are a few items that every raft needs to contain to help the game run smoothly.
10 Cooking Pot
The cooking pot is an object that needs to be placed on the raft as soon as the player is able to make it. The cooking pot is what the actual food recipes for the game are made in and is the best way to help keep hunger down so that the player can focus more on exploring.
The pot will take up a bit of room but allows players to lay out ingredients and hang their favorite recipes.
9 Research Table
The research table is one of the very first things that players need to add to their raft. It’s not just for checking out random objects; it actually grants you the recipes to make advanced items like the smelter, cooking pot, and hammock.
Almost everything in the game can be researched, and players should always ensure that new items go straight to the table.
8 Smelter
The smelter is needed for converting things like ore and sand into advanced building materials. Without the smelter, the player won’t gain access to things like iron, which are especially useful in making more powerful weapons to help chase off the pesky shark.
In addition, iron is a must-have for the contents of the second chapter update that introduces new enemies.
7 Hammock
The hammock is a nice way to ensure that the player can respawn easily and make it through the night. The hammock offers the player the ability to revive at 50% health, 75% hunger, and 75% thirst, which is much better than the standard bed. It also is more aesthetically pleasing than a pile of leaves on the floor for those who love to decorate their raft.
In addition, players can skip nighttime by sleeping in the hammock, and it will restore 75% of their health.
6 Stationary Anchor
While most players will ram the side of their raft into an island to keep it still while they explore, it can be hard to get the raft unstuck. The best way to secure a boat is by making an anchor; sadly, the first available anchor will be a one-time use device that gets frustrating to remake.
The stationary anchor is a permanent way to safely station your boat when embarking onto an island.
5 Streamer
The streamer is one of the most important devices in the game as it helps the player follow the main story. The streamer will always blow in the direction that moves the game forward. In the early game, this will help lead the player to the radio and to larger islands.
This is the one way that players can ensure they aren’t getting turned around in the vast sea.
4 Paddle
While engines and steering wheels make steering the raft a breeze, these won’t come into play until late game. Every player needs to have a paddle on their boat, as it can be a great way to get a raft unstuck, especially during the early hours of trying to get stuck on an island to keep the raft still.
The paddle can also help change the direction of the raft, which can be important in the open ocean.
3 Lantern
Nighttime in the game is always pretty rough for those who don’t try to turn up the brightness. The sea is already dangerous, and it’s pretty easy to fall off the raft when it’s dark. To ensure that this doesn’t happen, players should ensure that there is light on the raft.
The best way to do this is by placing lanterns around the raft to give some visibility during the night.
2 Advanced Purifier
The advanced purifier is much better than the standard water purifier that literally only makes a single cup of water at a time. The advanced purifier isn’t incredibly expensive to make and is able to purify up to five cups of seawater at first, perfect for a multiplayer session.
The player can also refill empty cups while there are still full cups left on the purifier. This will also help players spend less time resource making and more time exploring.
1 Collection Net
Garbage collecting can be fun at times, but many players will get tired of trying to gather plastic sooner or later. To help make things a bit easier on players, there are the collection nets. Collection nets can be placed around the raft to collect pieces of trash that drift into their path.
The player can place as many collection nets as they want, and each net can hold up to ten items, including ten barrels.
