Rainbow Six Siege has dominated the 5v5 competitive scene since its debut back in 2015. Ubisoft has implemented some major quality of life updates since its launch, making the game practically unrecognizable when compared to its 1.0 counterpart. Basic stabilization and balances to agents, maps, and weapons are commonplace and have drastically changed the game’s pacing and strategic approach to combat.

The community, online behavior aside, has vocalized their opinions to some of the major changes for years. Just when you get comfortable, another patch or update rolls around completely flipping the game on its head. These are the ten most unpopular opinions according to Reddit. Get ready, because there are some spicy takes ahead.

10 The Game Is Dead

Ah, the classic “the game is dead” spiel. We hear it all too often with pretty much every online game that a vast minority despises to some extent. Poor Fall Guys. The truth of the matter is, Siege is far from dead. If anything, its pulse is stronger than ever.

According to multiple sources online, since its launch nearly six years ago, Siege has surpassed 70 million registered players across all of the available platforms. After checking the Steam charts, Siege maintains a solid 69,000 concurrent player base, and daily player peaks even higher at times, with nearly 200,000 at the all-time peak. It holds a meager flame to other competitive shooters like CS:GO or Valorant, but is still able to maintain a faithful community.

9 Consulate Is The Worst Map In The Game

People seem to have very strong feelings toward the Consulate map. This is commonplace for every competitive online game. It’s rare to see a game’s community like all of the maps, but wow, do some people hate Consulate. Spawn peeking aside, Consulate has a litany of issues.

Conversely, others stand by the fact that they believe it’s the most balanced map of the lot. Most who lean toward the “hate” side find it infuriating to push any upstairs location with or without competent teammates. To be fair, there is always the risk of playing with less-than-favorable teammates when queuing up solo. Another issue arises when people discover and then abuse the same strategies, leaving many Redditors feeling indifferent toward its rework.

8 Lion Wasn’t Too Bad When He Came Out

Lion’s introduction into the operator roster was rather controversial. The opinion has been stated on Reddit that Lion wasn’t that much of an issue upon arrival and that players should just stand still when he uses his EE-ONE-D to scan and trace the enemy team. The Reddit community quickly responded with strong opposition.

Lion’s gadget incentivizes players to stand still, inadvertently making them a vulnerable target. However, it’s been explained on Reddit perfectly: Lion makes you stand still, he doesn’t just reveal your position. Since a stationary target is extremely vulnerable, Lion is basically making you choose between a state of either moving and being pinged or being a target standing still. Once you were pinged, it became very difficult to counter a competent and vocal Lion.

7 Doc Needs A Nerf

Technically, Doc has since received a nerf in the form of his ACOG scope removal, but some will claim that it still isn’t enough. When downed, Doc has the ability to stim himself back up after a short amount of time and continue the fight with nearly all of his health back.

He wouldn’t be much of a Doc if his character wasn’t designed around health, would he?

6 Skins Should Be Exclusive

People who have worked hard for their rare skins feel that Ubisoft should implement an exclusivity mechanic behind skin drops. Currently, those who earn or purchase alpha packs and cosmetic bundles pretty much wipe away any rarity of those skins.

Some players make a commitment to the game in pursuit of skins like Black Ice and Blood Orchid, only to now feel like they had hopped onto the bandwagon. Ubisoft has consistently released new bundles to counter that feeling of everyone using the same skins. They’ve even released bundles pertaining to some of their other IPs like For Honor.

5 If You Die From A Spawn Peek, It’s Your Fault

It’s always infuriating to have to sit out at the beginning of a round after being killed by a poorly-timed spawn peek, but this Redditor does bring up an interesting point. If you have excellent map sense and a generally solid reaction time, dying to spawn peeks should be a rarity.

At the start of every round, coordinate your attack plan and try to assume where someone could peek you from. Counter a potential attack by pushing with a few teammates, using drones to eavesdrop on unsuspecting spawn peekers, or by shooting out a cracked window. Don’t be a vulnerable target or else your team’s attack phase will surely suffer.

4 Black Ice Is Overrated And Not Even That Cool

Black Ice is an old favorite of the Siege community, and for obvious reasons — it’s super clean. The community would mostly agree that it’s objectively the best skin in the game, but for others, cosmetics are completely subjective.

There isn’t much ground for argument here. People either love it, hate it, or don’t care. If you’re not a part of the general consensus, don’t feel bad — it’s just a skin.

3 There Should Be Mouse And Keyboard Support For Consoles

Getting pretty specific here — some argue that mouse and keyboard support for consoles is a rather trivial update to tackle compared to some of the other, more glaring issues.

For some, building or purchasing a beefy computer with modern specs doesn’t fit their budget, but they are comfortable when playing with a mouse and keyboard instead of a controller. It seems as though some people don’t want this support so that they can easily wipe out controller players. Unfortunately, it looks like crossplay won’t be coming to PC any time soon.

2 Vote To Kick Should Be Removed

A divisive one for sure, vote to kick has been in conversation for years, and not just for Siege. Sometimes, when playing with randoms who are queued up together, they’ll simply vote to kick you for no reason at all. To say that it’s frustrating, especially during ranked games, is quite an understatement. This a huge problem for EU CS:GO servers as well.

Conversely, queuing up with a toxic or AFK teammate incentivizes the use of this mechanic more so than anything else. If you find yourself being kicked from matches a lot, it’s a good idea to join a Discord community and make some friends. Queuing up with a full stack of players will definitely alleviate some of the grievances posed by vote to kick.

1 All Of The Maps Are Fun And Should Be Included In All Playlists

If you find yourself agreeing with this statement, good on you! Enjoying every map offered in any game only enhances the overall experience. We play games to have fun, and if you’re always having fun, what is there to complain about?

Not every map is perfect, however, and some can make some playlists a chore to queue. Some would agree that not all maps are made for every single playlist, just like some operators work better on some maps compared to others. Again, it all comes down to your personal preference.
