Ubisoft revitalized the casual and competitive FPS landscape alike with the soft reboot of Rainbow Six. After the cancellation of Patriots, Ubisoft went back to their roots and created a captivating PvP experience with Rainbow Six Siege.

This game focuses on tactical decision making, team coordination, and proper use of your Operator. Each Operator has a unique set of weapons to use and a gadget to separate them from the rest. With four years of updates released for Siege, not every Operator has aged so gracefully. Here are the 5 best Operators in Rainbow Six Siege along with 5 of the worst options.

10 Best: IQ

With how many defender gadgets exist in Siege, having a character that can detect and disable all of them is going to be a strong choice.

That is what IQ is great at. She has a special sensor that can detect nearly every enemy defender gadget in the game. Her weapons are also powerful and she has a good range of gadgets to choose from. While she can’t completely deny gadgets like Thatcher’s EMP grenades can, the information IQ brings to the table makes her a must-have in high-level play.

9 Worst: Blackbeard

Anyone who played Siege when Blackbeard released remembers when Blackbeard was overpowered, capable of absorbing nearly a thousand damage with this shield.

Times have changed, and the game’s meta is ever-shifting. Having protection when making a risky peak at a location can be useful, but that is exactly what drones are for. Blackbeard’s shield just can’t take the punishment it needs to in order to be competitive with other choices. His guns aren’t that great, either.

8 Best: Jackal

Jackal is a roamer’s worst nightmare. He has the ability to track a certain target’s footprints and locate their position. Unlike Lion, Jackal can gain information on an opponent for a much longer period of time.

A great roaming Operator can easily shut down an attacking force, flanking the attacking team at a critical moment in the round. Characters like Jackal make sure that doesn’t happen and turns the hunters into the hunted.

7 Worst: Fuze

What could be more awesome than having a puck that releases explosive grenades? While the gadget Fuze has is nothing short of exhilarating, its application in most games is limited at best.

Fuze can deploy a device that can stick through soft walls such as wood or hatches. This puck can then be activated to release 5 explosive grenades in the next room, killing anyone inside. If the enemy is camping, this is a fantastic option of flushing them out. However, defenders typically have roaming characters in their roster and hard surfaces will prevent Fuze from bombing a room altogether. Worst of all, his ability can kill the hostage and actually lose your team the round!

6 Best: Bandit

If you love being a jack-of-all-trades style of character, look no further than Bandit. Featuring a great selection of guns and a versatile gadget, he is welcome on almost any defending team.

His MP7 can deal considerable amounts of damage quickly, being countered with its small magazine. Bandit turns into a great Operator with his gadget, however, electrifying surfaces it is attached to. Barbed wire will electrify enemies and destroy drones, and his batteries can be hooked up to reinforced walls to prevent Hibana or Thermite from breaking through.

5 Worst: Ying

If Fuze can lose the round by killing the hostage on accident, what could be worse than that? Blinding your entire team is a start.

Ying is an attacking Operator who excels at blinding opponents. Her gadget is a small ball that releases a series of flashbangs that blind anyone who looks at them. If it goes off, though, everyone except Ying gets blinded, including teammates. Her gun is rather solid, but her gadget has too many downsides and can be easily countered by the likes of Jager.

4 Best: Mute

Attackers get plenty of gadgets in Rainbow Six Siege, ranging from grappling hooks to drones that destroy gadgets. That is why countering them is so important.

That is where Mute comes in. Mute is a defending Operator featuring the great MP5 SMG and a jamming device. Any electronic-focused gadget will not Operate near Mute jammers. This includes drones, Thermite and Hibana breaching charges, phones, virtually any electronic you can think of. If his gun could come with an ACOG, Mute would be arguably the best defender in the game.

3 Worst: Glaz

Sniper rifles don’t see much use in Siege, mainly because few Operators have access to them. With Glaz having a thermal optic sniper as his ability, you would think it would be amazing.

It sadly isn’t. The gun deals considerable damage per bullet, but it is hard to compete with rapid-fire weapons that can instantly kill you with one headshot. Thermal is situational at best, highly depending on the map you are playing on. For most maps in Siege, there aren’t long enough sightlines to warrant using Glaz.

2 Best: Hibana

Hard walls are reinforced with metal and plating, making them impervious to traditional gunfire and explosives. They are still weak to the likes of Thermite and Hibana, though.

Hibana is an insanely powerful attacker. She has a great primary weapon, secondary weapon, is a 3-speed character, and can destroy both reinforced walls and hatches with her ability from a distance. A good Hibana player is incredibly hard to beat with how versatile she is. There is no situation where she doesn’t do great.

1 Worst: Tachanka

The meme-lord himself had to be on this list. Unfortunately, his rework has not been released yet. As it stands, Tachanka is a relic of a bygone time in Siege.

Tachanka has poor weapons, is a 1-speed Operator, and has an ability that makes him immobile. The gun turret Tachanka uses can deal good damage at the cost of making you stand still, which means easy headshots for the enemy team. Not even the turret’s face shield can save you. He is a fun Operator for sure, but until his rework releases, he is sadly the worst Operator in all of Rainbow Six Siege.
