The official Rainbow Six Siege Twitter account announced that the Y5S2.3 update has been delayed. The tactical, squad based shooter has entered its 5th year of updates, evolving from a rough game into one of the most popular shooters in esports. Major updates include new operators with unique stats, abilities, and gadgets, while more frequent and smaller updates address the game’s balance.
The Y5S2.3 update was scheduled for launch on PC today, July 28, but has been delayed “due to unforeseen circumstances.” The news came from the Rainbow Six Siege official Twitter account an hour after the update was supposed to go live. They go on to say they “will share updated maintenance times at a later date.” No specific time frame was given for when the update will actually be implemented.
The patch notes for what this update contained had already been released, including many balance changes to operators. Oryx’s Remah dash was to be improved by no longer consuming dash charges, as well as being able to break through soft walls, and his recovery time on dashes would be reduced to half a second. To counter this, his dash refill charge time would be bumped up from eight to 12 seconds.
Fuze was another character to be getting some buffs. He will now have the capacity for four cluster charges instead of three. Ubisoft hopes that will entice players to use “those resources more aggressively." Other changes include Gridlock’s trax stringers deployment time go from 13 down to nine seconds. A full list of patch notes can be read on Ubisoft’s website.
We don’t know if the delay is due to something catastrophic, or an error not noticed until the very last moment. The fact that Ubisoft and the team do not name the cause of the delay, and cannot provide a new time frame for the update to go through, leads to wild speculation in the Siege community.
While this is not a major update to the game, it is unfortunate that balance changes have to wait in such a competitive title. This year has been no stranger to delays of all kinds, but what makes this one somewhat unique is the circumstances. It is very rare for something to get delayed after it was set to launch with no word on why or when they will tell us more.
