For those of you who might not have been alive at the time, John Rambo is an iconic ’80s action hero who racked up a fairly impressive kill count across all five of his movies. He’s also already made an appearance in a modern game as a DLC character in Mortal Kombat 11–that’s him in the picture above. Just like the movies, Rambo arrived in Mortal Kombat 11 armed with a bow and arrow, a giant knife, and an M60 machine gun.
The only reason that a machine gun was even remotely fair in a fighting game was because Mortal Kombat characters routinely throw fireballs, ice shards, and all sorts of magic spells. Spraying bullets and laying traps were the least Rambo could do against the likes of Shang Tsung.
But now it seems like Rambo might be heading to a game that’s more his speed. The official Call of Duty Twitter account recently tweeted about a new player named “SURVIVORJOHN#1009062” and then listed several of his notable statistics. He’s won all five of the games he’s played, never died, and killed 552 enemies–coincidentally, the same number of people that Rambo has killed in all five of his movies. Which if you watched them back-to-back, would run about seven hours.
Since Verdansk has been conveniently transported back to the ’80s for Season 3, Rambo would be the perfect guy to add as an operator to Warzone. It’d also mark a big departure for the game as its first licensed Operator, and it might mean the flood gates are about to open for a whole bunch of ’80s action heroes. Next might be John McClane, Major Scott McCoy, or maybe even Indiana Jones.
We’ll keep an eye out for Rambo in future Warzone updates. We’ll also stay on the lookout for a new fast travel system comprised of “Red Doors.” That’s a ’60s reference rather than an ’80s one, but I guess The Doors are pretty timeless.
