Fifteen games later, Final Fantasy is still going strong. Although this game started with not so happy reviews, it seems that the last expansions have revived the excitement for the latest Final Fantasy game to date.

In this game, we come back to play in the land Eorzea, five years after the events of Final Fantasy XIII. The primal Dragon Bahamauth has escaped from the lunar prison to start The Seventh Umbral Calamity, a huge problem that will bring destruction to Eorzea.

With its launch in 2010, the 14th version of this MMORPG has kept evolving with new expansions; some of them have breathed new life into this franchise making it easier for new players and exciting for the old ones. Take a look at the ranking of these expansions from the less epic to the most enjoyable.

4 Stormblood

This is the second game expansion, and although the look of dungeons, quests, and trials had not changed much since its previous installment (Heavensward), it is an expansion to the game that is worth playing. Among its most exciting additions, there are two new lands and new classes that expand the fantastic story of Final Fantasy.

The story is based around the eastern lands of Ala Mhigo and Doma territories’ eastern lands, which have been dominated by the Garlean Empire for many years. This situation will lead a group of rebels to rise against their oppressors and seek their freedom.

One of the additions of Stormblood is the work of Samurai; this class manages to inflict a large amount of damage thanks to the use of their swords; also, the skills have an aesthetic and action that looks incredible. On the other hand, we have the Red-Mage, a class that can inflict damage up close, but its main attraction is its black and white magic abilities. To unlock these jobs your task is to reach level 60 and pass all the Heavensward missions.

3 A Realm Reborn

This installment can be described as a better, more robust, and faster Final Fantasy. Many fans were disappointed in the first installment of Final Fantasy XIV, but like the Phoenix, this game rose from the ashes to revitalize the genre. Opting for a new beginning, this expansion took away all the complicated dynamics and returned to its origins as a high-quality MMO. In this way, FF14 was reborn.

Once you have created your character and chosen a starting class, you’ll start a series of rapid-fire tests in the first city, giving a quick review of what you need to know about the game. In this part, you can buy your equipment; you’ll get your class-based quests; you will learn craft and harvesting professions, and then start your adventure.

This game gave players the ability to gain experience points to reach higher levels, but this time it wouldn’t be only a wizard or a fighter; players now could be a summoner or a dragoon. Now you can save non-player characters in missions, and these NPCs have names like Wedge and Biggs. The fantasy lands look spectacular, and everything is accompanied by an orchestrated soundtrack, a sublime experience.

2 Heavensward

Heavensward presents dramatic moments that have been among the best in the entire series. Racism, or in this case, speciesism, plays an essential role in this story about how blind belief in religious dogmas can harm a society.

This incredible narrative is accompanied by entertaining side missions, of which there are plenty. Passing these quests will allow you to go from level 50 to 60 just by completing the main story and all the NPCs you meet along the way. If you want to level up faster, go to the grinding dungeons. With this expansion, you’ll spend more hours in Eorzea than you’ll want to admit.

A rather peculiar addition is that in this installment of Final Fantasy players will be given the ability to fly, which will allow them to revisit and know all the new areas of this expansion.

1 Shadowbringers

This story begins in Norvrandt’s parallel world, one of Eorzea’s reflections. Your task will be to face the Sin-Eaters and avoid the terrible catastrophe that can affect the multiverse. On your way, you’ll get even more significant challenges like the mighty Lightwanders. This plot reveals essential aspects of how the world of Final Fantasy works. Lead Natsuko Ishikawa, one of the writers of this story, blends interesting themes like death, fatherhood, and the apocalypse, imagining what the world would be like after the end.

With the Trust System, you can enter the dungeons of history in the company of characters controlled by the AI. These new characters have dialogues and personalities that make this experience more fun. This will allow players who play alone to have more interaction with the content that this expansion offers. Once you’ve finished the game, the system is responsible for lowering your companions’ level, which will force you to replay in the dungeons to recover your previous level. This means more hours of entertainment in the world of Final Fantasy.
