It’s something of a surprise that the Ratchet & Clank series hasn’t had that many memes dedicated to it. After all, the series is fashioned in such a way that there’s a lot of double meanings and references played for comedic effect. Clank, the secondary lead, has several moments worthy of note as well.
Being the straight man of the hero duo, the fanbase likes to joke around with the character by pointing out the times where he seems to either be clueless or simply relegated as an afterthought. To put things into better context, here are hilarious Clank memes that fans will enjoy.
10 No Clank Fans?
Often considered a prominent video gaming sidekick rather than the lead he actually is, Clank doesn’t get the love he deserves. Most people make Ratchet out to be the main character, with those unfamiliar with the series figuring him to be the only title character.
The creator of this meme has pointed this out, using their supposed confusion of Reddit pages to illustrate how Clank has a much smaller fanbase than he should have.
9 The General Wondering
The voice acting of the characters needs to get a special mention for bringing the humor alive. While they might not be A-list names in the business, they do get the job done. Clank, in particular, is a hard character to voice since he’s a robot.
The funny thing, though, is that animators have tried to make the voice actor’s job easy by conveying Clank’s emotions. This shouldn’t really be possible considering the guy isn’t a real person.
8 Upvotes Everywhere
This can be considered a meme for both Clank and Ratchet, being twofold in meaning. The idea here is that Ratchet’s become obsessed with receiving upvotes, and is caught mesmerized staring at all they’ve received.
However, Clank can’t really get to enjoy the sight Ratchet’s telling him about, seeing as he’s faced away from all those upvotes. Looks like someone needs to tell Ratchet that he needs to stop hogging the view and allow Clank in on the fun.
7 Bad Boy, Clank
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is one of those quality titles that is unfortunately stuck being a PS3 exclusive. This meme, though, seems to focus solely on the expression Clank has on the game’s poster.
This face of Clank was meant to show how advanced the graphics had gotten in the series, but the caption on this picture gives it a whole new meaning entirely. Funnily enough, after reading it, it’s hard not to picture Clank as anything other than being hungover.
6 The Real Hero
The games considered among the worst in the series happen to be those where Clank’s role is minimal. This isn’t just a coincidence, seeing as Clank’s usage can bolster gameplay value. Unfortunately, he’s relegated to being on Ratchet’s back for the most part.
At least he gets some recognition for being the unsung hero, even if that has come in the form of a meme. What’s amusing is how Clank even has something of a soldier stance going on in this picture, as if he’s been commanded to keep quiet and hang around.
5 Why, Though?
The character in question here is Klunk, the doppelganger of Clank, whose plan in Secret Agent Clank wasn’t the most well-thought-out one. Considering he could have gotten his hands on the Eye of Infinity, it didn’t make sense why he chose such an elaborate scheme to do so.
This ends up being a case of video game logic, where villains behave stupidly just so that the heroes can have a conflict to overcome. But hey, at least fans got to see both Clank and Klunk duke it out because of this weird angle.
4 That Didn’t Catch On, Did It?
The sarcastic or out of touch comments that Clank makes at frequent moments in the game are meme-worthy. However, it doesn’t seem as if he’s reached quite the level of potential that Ratchet enjoys, which this meme points out.
Some series, like Assassin’s Creed, have so many memes that one loses count, but poor Clank didn’t reach those heights. Then again, the fact that this self-referential picture has become popular makes this whole thing ironically hilarious.
3 No Love For Clank?
Over the years, the lack of an HD port of Secret Agent Clank has led to it becoming one of those PSP games that are increasingly difficult to find. It might not have set the industry on fire, but the game sure had its loyal fans.
Unfortunately, these guys couldn’t jump for joy when Secret Agent Clank didn’t join the list of games getting a remaster for the PS4. For now, fans can do nothing but make the same face Ratchet and Clank have here.
2 That’s A Good Point
Easily one of the shortest stealth games you can play, Secret Agent Clank didn’t last too long but brought in a fair bit of fun. However, it raised more questions than intended, namely with why Clank took to wearing clothes.
After all, he was happy wearing nothing for years before this adventure came by. On top of that, this was the worst time to don clothes since the intention was for him to go unseen, which was difficult if he had clothing on.
1 Better Be Nice To Clank, Guys
Clank can be something like the Iron Giant, in that it’s difficult to make out just what he’s thinking when he’s not speaking. This is more apparent when he’s out of focus in a scene, and a glance at Clank makes one wonder if he might be having malicious thoughts.
This idea is best illustrated in this meme, where it’s brought up that Clank could very well be plotting the worst thing possible and you couldn’t tell. So, it might be in everyone’s best interest to be nice to him unless they want an unpleasant surprise.
