Insomniac has quietly rolled out Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s latest update which includes a 120hz display mode and the ability to remove the game’s Phantom Dash effect.

The days of games being perfect on launch day are long gone. Developers are now able to fix issues and even add all new features from afar. That even includes games that aren’t live service or teeming with online elements such as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Almost three weeks on from the PS5 exclusive’s launch, Insomniac has rolled out Rift Apart’s 1.002 update.

Although Insomniac hasn’t released official patch notes, Rift Apart players have already deduced Insomniac has fixed and reinstated the game’s 120hz display mode. The 120hz display was removed from Rift Apart’s Performance Mode shortly after its launch due to visual compatibility with some screens. It has now returned at 40FPS.

While that is the most obvious change upon first glance, it isn’t the only one. Insomniac has also added a couple of new features to Rift Apart’s popular Photo Mode. You can now toggle Ratchet and Rivet’s armor on and off in Photo Mode, as well as change the color of the backgrounds. Not to mention a bunch of new stickers have also been added.

And the changes keep on coming. Rift Apart players now have the option to disable the animation that happens when you hit circle and use Phantom Dash. A new feature added to the Ratchet & Clank universe via Rift Apart thanks to the interdimensional theme, Phantom Dash allows you to dodge incoming attacks and even pass through some of the game’s doors. It creates an effect where a trail of lombaxes appears behind you which was clearly annoying enough people that Insomniac thought it necessary to add the option to turn it off.

Rift Apart continues to solidify itself as a Game of the Year contender in the eyes of many despite being relatively short compared to some of the titles it will be competing with by the end of 2021. With more of its minor issues ironed out via the latest update it may well win over a few more people this weekend. Odds are it won’t return to the top of the charts though after being knocked off by Mario Golf last week.
