The Taiwanese ratings board has leaked information about a new Crash Bandicoot game, including the title, description, and cover art.

During a time in the video game world where remasters and remakes might well be the order of the day, it’s hard to think of one more well-received than Crash Bandicoot. Vicarious Visions remastered and re-released the original trilogy in 2017, dubbing it the N’Sane Trilogy. It had sold more than 10 million copies since and sparked a Crash Team Racing remaster off the back of its success.

So, what’s next? Well, if a leak by the Taiwanese ratings board is anything to go by (and it very much appears to be) – there’s a brand new Crash game coming very soon. The leak includes the title of the game, a description of its story, which platforms it will be released on at launch, and even the box art itself.

The game will apparently be called Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. That suggests the title will ignore Crash games that have come since Crash Bandicoot: Warped and rewrite history somewhat, perhaps in the same way Sonic Mania did to its own franchise. The description of Crash 4’s storyline lends credence to that theory, stating that the game begins on Crash’s home island back in 1998.

“Crash is relaxing and exploring his island in his time, 1998, when he finds a mysterious mask hidden away in a cave, Lani-Loli,” the description reads. The mask turns out to be one of the Quantum Masks and sparks the return of the Quantum Rift. Crash and the gang use it to head to different times in order to track down and stop whoever is responsible.

Crash 4 will apparently be available on PS4 and Xbox One, with no sign of it coming to Nintendo Switch, at least not yet. The platform choice is curious, considering that the developers of this game, Toys for Bob, were responsible for N’Sane Trilogy’s Switch port. The platforms also suggest the game will be released soon since by the end of the year, the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be on the market. Rumor has it the game will be officially revealed on June 22, 2020.
