The adventure game Re:ZERO – The Prophecy Of The Throne is being released to western audiences on both the Nintendo Switch and PS4 this winter.
The news comes one month after Spike Chunsoft, the developer of the game, released it to Japanese audiences for the Nintendo Switch. The game takes place one month after the main character of the series, Subaru, has settled into a new world.
According to Nintendo Soup, the new game has a storyline that was approved by the series author Tappei Nagatsuki. Subaru must unravel a plot to seize the throne of the Kingdom Of Lugunica by manipulating an event known as the Royal Selection. A prophecy by the Dragon Stone has foretold that five individuals with claim to the throne would participate. But for some reason six have shown up with seemingly legitimate claims. It is up to the player to determine who the imposter is.
This storyline bears similarities to the Royal Selection arc from the first season of the anime but will include a few differences. Most of the changes are based around new characters being introduced and a few ‘What if’ scenarios the player can explore. These new characters have been designed by the series original artist, Shinichirou Otsuka.
Upon release the game will be available as a Day One Edition and a Collector’s Edition. The Day One Edition will go for $59.99 and includes a display box with character pins. The Collector’s Edition is being sold for $89.99 and in addition to the character pins will have a full-color art book that contains concept art for the game, sketches and a foreword by the creators of the series. The collection will also include a SteelBook display case, the original soundtrack of the game, and a box to hold everything.
While a specific date hasn’t been revealed for the release it has been slated for Winter 2020. This means the soonest it could see a release is sometime in December and the latest could be February or even March.
