The gaming community can’t wait for Phigames’ survival epic Recompile as the latest announcement confirms its release onto PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The Metroidvania inspired hack ’n’ slash also promotes exciting bursts of airdashing featured in the Sci-Fi adventure’s trailer.
Recompile will base its story around a “sentient virus” protagonist as you gain power over a self-aware program in order to escape permanent erasure. The environment will flaunt a 3D world called The Mainframe and game play will involve tightly-wound combat, refined platforming and a narrative that will splinter based on the players gaming style. The platformer published by Dear Villagers boasts an atmospheric labyrinth of stunning graphics that are reminiscent of games like Superhot. Its new trailer features the song Jupiter by Aoife O’Donovan that has received a lot of attention from fans.
Phigames co-founder Phi Dinh described in a PlayStation Blog about how the environment of the game’s setting, The Mainframe, has no boundaries when it comes to exploration. The amount of detail woven into the spectacular visuals of the game’s surroundings is jaw-dropping at points during the current trailer. The Mainframe is made up of many components that represent one mechanic within the computer system. The player is tasked with breaking into this system by passing through the resilient area of the computers security known as The Tet.
The Hex is another location for players to explore that requires a different strategy in order to complete it. Dinh explains that every locale forces the player to adapt and perform other skills they may have not needed in the previous environments. The mastery of said skills play an integral part in finding success and many of the “levels” could require the fluid and energetic airdashing showcased in the trailer.
Recompile is due to release sometime this year on Steam as well as the next gen consoles at the end of the year. Followers of the game have praised the work being produced by indie developers in the modern market and are excited to battle the game’s intelligent AI. The game plays to the classic Sci-Fi theme of self-aware robots, but its unique ability to control progression based on player style exhibits the creativity featured in the industries new wave of games. The antagonist is said to be built around the player’s manner also. Dinh explained that if gameplay is too combative then this style would be mimicked in the behavior of the enemy.
Drawing inspiration from Axiom Verge and Hollow Knight, Recompile looks to please fans of many different gaming genres and promises to one hell of an experience.
