Hackers are getting Red Dead Online streamers banned by framing them. Hackers have been a problem for months on Red Dead Online, and have harassed players, cheated, and added racist KKK characters to the game. They are now impersonating streamers to get them banned.

The hackers are posing as streamers and then pulling the streamer and many other players into their lobby. They then blow everyone up, and the blame falls on the innocent streamer whose name was hijacked.

Streamer HazardousHDTV was enjoying the Naturalist update when the hacker used this trick and killed everyone in the lobby. According to PCGamesn, HazardousHDTV said, “This cheater was spoofing my name, disguising themself as me, and the game was notifying every other player that I was the one killing them,” Hazardous says. “My hostility rose in-game, and the game was giving me XP for player kills. I quickly Alt-F4ed and ended my stream.”

Another streamer called SwolTV faced a similar fate. Swol actually moved from his PC to his PlayStation 4 to evade the attacks. His bitrate kept dropping, and he realized that the hacker was carrying out a DDoS attack on his internet. The hacker had managed to get his IP address and used it to cause many disconnections.  Swol eventually had to cut his stream short because he could no longer connect.

So how do the hackers manage to carry out these attacks? According to Hazardous, it’s because of paid mod menus, as well as flaws in Rockstar’s security. He says that hackers can use the modder menu to access sensitive information like your IP address, country, region, zip code, and ISP. With this information, it’s easy to launch attacks and crash people’s systems. There are even Youtube videos showing how hackers use the menus to steal data.

Both Swol and Hazardous had to endure impersonations or attacks for days and lost some of their income. It was a frustrating experience as they weren’t able to work, and their reputations were smeared. Hazardous even had to get a new modem and IP address before he could get back to work.

Hackers have been getting innocent players banned from Red Dead Online by using many tricks, including the infamous treasure chest cheat. These issues ruin the game for players, and in the case of streamers, harms their income. So far, there’s been no response from Rockstar on how they will stop these attacks. According to some, the introduction of private lobbies is the answer. Either way, Rockstar needs to find a solution or risk losing players.
