Red Dead Redemption 2 features a plethora of locations in its open-world, Wild West sandbox. Every location has its own array of secrets and all kinds of interesting characters. One of these locations is the Aberdeen Pig Farm, home to the Aberdeen family.
The Aberdeens are a peculiar bunch in Red Dead Redemption 2 and you should be cautious when dealing with them. Here is a list of everything you need to know about the Aberdeen Pig Farm in Red Dead Redemption 2. Spoiler warning for Red Dead Redemption 2 ahead!
Updated December 30th, 2020 by Josh Davison: The Aberdeen Pig Farm is one of the most memorable finds in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. While the characters have little bearing on the overall story (mostly), and the location is squirreled away at the bottom of a hill in Lemoyne, it’s one of the encounters that players remember the most in the grand scheme of RDR2—and that’s saying a lot given the game’s vast world and long story. However, there are still a lot of details that players miss about the Aberdeen Pig Farm, and that’s why we here at The Gamer are going to dive back into the Aberdeen’s and expand this list with another five entries.
15 It’s Not Really A Pig Farm
The first thing everyone should know about the Aberdeen Pig Farm is that it’s not a great place to find pigs. That is to say that the pigs are long gone, and the Aberdeens aren’t really in the business of raising piggies anymore. If you’re hunting perfect pig pelts for some merchandise at the trapper, your time is better spent elsewhere.
14 Even If They Live, They Leave
Most players probably take their vengeance on the Aberdeens one way or the other, whether it be killing both siblings right off or killing the brother and leaving the sister tied up in the mass grave. However, if you decide to let bygones be bygones (not sure why you would in this situation), they’ll actually be long gone by the time of the Epilogue. If you go to visit the Aberdeens as John Marston, there won’t be an Aberdeen in sight—so it’s recommended you pay them a house call as Arthur Morgan.
13 They’re Based On Real People
Possibly the most frightening aspect of the Aberdeen siblings is that they are, in fact, based on a real family of serial killers known as the Bloody Benders who ran a bed and breakfast in Kansas. The Benders were believed to ambush their guests with a hammer blow to the head and a slit throat, and then they would strip the bodies of all belongings and bury the victims in an orchard. The real Benders were a full of family of killers, parents included. It’s unknown if the Aberdeen parents were killers too, but Bray and Tammy certainly are. John Bender Jr. and Kate Bender were the real-world counterparts to Bray and Tammy. John Jr. and Kate were also believed to be in an incestuous relationship, though there is some contention there.
12 Are They Cannibals?
There is some confusion as to whether the Aberdeens eat their victims. There is some circumstantial evidence for this (parts of which will be discussed later in the list). That said, cannibal hillbillies are a horror trope that might just have been applied to the Aberdeens since they have just about every other quality associated with the cannibal hillbilly type. There is no clear evidence that they’ve eaten anyone, and, given RDR2 is over two-years-old at this point, it’s unlikely that any will be discovered unless something is added to the online component.
11 It’s A Bank?
One of the most important easily-missed facts about the Aberdeen Pig Farm is that it is, in fact, a bank. When the Aberdeens ambush Arthur Morgan, they take all of his money and store it away. When players begin their journey as John Marston in the epilogue, they will find themselves without whatever money they amassed as Arthur Morgan. However, if you pay the Aberdeens a visit as Arthur just before the mission “Our Best Selves” and return as John Marston during the Epilogue, you will find all of Arthur’s money–and more–still waiting for you at the pig farm. That said, John Marston still receives quite a gift of wealth by the end of the Epilogue to RDR2, so you may reasonably choose to ignore the banking potential of the Aberdeen Pig Farm.
10 Where To Find The Aberdeen Pig Farm
Before dealing with the Aberdeen family, you first need to actually find them. Aberdeen Pig Farm is located southeast of Emerald Station and Emerald Ranch. It’s right on the border of Lemoyne and New Hanover.
Once you approach the area, the Aberdeen Pig Farm will feature a two-story house that you can visit. Once you arrive at the house, you will be greeted by the Aberdeen family, which consists of brother and sister Bray and Tammy Aberdeen.
9 What Happens When You Enter The Aberdeen Home
When you arrive at the Aberdeen house, the Aberdeens will offer you dinner and drinks. This is where things get weird from here on out. Before you can have dinner, explore the house for a little bit and then dinner will be ready. Dinner is where things will start to get weirder. If you change your mind about having dinner with the Aberdeens, you have the choice to refuse their dinner and drinks and leave.
But if you decide to stay to find out more about the Aberdeens, then you should accept their dinner and drink offers. The drinks are the real thing to watch out for, as the Aberdeens will continually offer more for you to sip. By the time you get to your third shot, you will pass out and the Aberdeens will rob you of your money and throw you out.
8 What To Do When Your Money Is Taken
After passing out and being thrown out, you will wake in a dumping ground for corpses. Upon waking up, simply sneak your way back to the Aberdeen household to look for your money.
After coming in through the main door, go to the painting of the old woman and there is a safe behind it. Not only will you get your money back, but you will also be getting the Aberdeens’ stash.
7 What Is Next?
Once you reacquire your money along with the Aberdeens’, where do you go from here? Well, there are options once you take back what’s yours.
If you really are feeling like taking vengeance on the Aberdeens, you can always kill them. How you take care of them is entirely up to you and the game does not restrict or penalize you for doing that. Red Dead Redemption 2 lets you play and do things your own way.
6 The Aberdeen Siblings Are Closer Than They Let Anyone Realize
Outside of the initial encounter, there are details about the Aberdeen family that are made apparent or you can uncover by yourself. Upon meeting the Aberdeen siblings, you will immediately notice that they like to cuddle with each other quite frequently. This is because they are an incestuous couple.
Bray and Tammy Aberdeen love each other like husband and wife rather than brother and sister. And they do not hide this disturbing fact in your interactions with them.
5 They Love To Remember Their Mother
If you inspect the Aberdeen house before or after your initial encounter with them, you can find some interesting details. One directly relates to their mother. If you go upstairs, you will find this cupboard located next to the stairs. If you open the cupboard, you will find the bones of the Aberdeens’ mother.
You can ask Tammy and Bray Aberdeen about it before your supper with them. If you ask Tammy and Bray about the bones, they will say they wanted to keep their mother around instead of burying her.
4 The Aberdeens Are Killers
Upon you waking in the pit after being put there by the Aberdeen siblings, you will wake up surrounded by corpses and bones. This means that you are not the first victim of the Aberdeens.
The Aberdeens have tricked and killed more visitors over the years. It is never explicitly known how many people they have murdered.
3 Hidden Box Under The Floor Upstairs
After you take your revenge on the Aberdeens and take back your money, you can uncover more secrets from their home. If you go back upstairs where you find their mother’s bones, you will find a box containing mini-boxes inscribed with the letters “SL.”
They will be located underneath the wood that is brighter than the others. Just shoot at that particular floorboard and the items will be revealed. Sadly, you will not be able to collect them and it is unknown what the contents are.
2 Did The Aberdeens Kill Their Mother & Father?
Taking revenge on the Aberdeens can also reveal a new piece of information about their mother. If you kill Bray and tie up and take Tammy to the corpse dumping grounds you woke up in, Tammy will say, “I’m sorry, Momma! I’m sorry…” Did the Aberdeens kill their mother years prior? It is never explicitly stated but there are hints of turmoil between the Aberdeens and their parents.
Additionally, if you go to Tammy’s room and head to the bedside desk, you will find a family photo of the Aberdeens as children with their parents. The parents have their faces scratched off from the picture, hinting that Bray and Tammy have resentment for their parents.
1 Bray’s Monologue
Also, if you leave the house during supper and come back later on, you can find Bray writing something on his desk in the room next to the kitchen. He will talk aloud to himself and one of the things he says is, “Ma and Pa, you brought this on yourselves. It was the only way we’d all have peace.”
Further cementing evidence that the Aberdeens murdered their parents is Bray saying, “Wish we could’ve given you a proper burial, but things ain’t never perfect. But you loved them pigs, and that day they ate well.”
