For many players, the little things are what gives a game replay value and makes it exciting to comb through all of its features. A Reddit user discovered a neat detail while fishing with bait in Red Dead Redemption 2 that is really underlying this principle.

Video game physics are often far off from real life, with many hilarious examples of impossible things like ragdolling enemies or flying Fornite cars to be found on the Internet. So when developers put the time into making objects and people interact with the world realistically, it’s something that many players don’t expect. Reddit user pompunale shared a video on the Red Dead Redemption sub that shows a character fishing and facing a surprising challenge that real-life fishers deal with.

In the video, Arthur Morgan goes fishing and stands on a slanted roof to cast his line down toward a body of water. One important fact that might not seem that essential at first glance is that there are several large trees in the water, and Morgan casts the fishing line straight toward them. As one person commented on the thread, most players would expect the trees to be cosmetic and for the line to clip right through the object. But the exact opposite happens: the line gets tangled in several places.

The Reddit user changed around the game’s camera settings to better show the contrast between the line and branches, and then zoomed in to show viewers the fishing line interacting with the branches in a way that most video game objects simply don’t. As one comment says, “Somebody built all of that just for a small fishing minigame.” This isn’t a flashy or important part of the game, but a developer took the time to code in a way for fishing line to get tangled in tree branches.

Several people in the comments complimented the game devs and called the game a “masterpiece.” The common consensus is that Rockstar is amazing at inserting small details like this, and that the game is full of them. One person asked for updates to come to Red Dead Redemption 2, although some people expressed doubt that Rockstar would release DLC for the PS4 version.

Some of the comments claimed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has “ruined gaming” for them because no other game can compare to the astounding level of detail Rockstar devs put into the game. However, it isn’t the only game that fans are still finding details in, since a lot of game communities have people who are willing to go above and beyond to notice the tiny intricacies that devs built-in.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
