Updated July 31, 2021, by Jerrad Wyche:Red Dead Redemption 2 recently saw a new update titled Ember of the East for Red Dead Online that added a new heist mission, but fans of the single-player campaign are still holding out for a piece of DLC tied to Arthur Morgan and/or the Van der Linde gang. It’s unclear if developer Rockstar Games will ever accommodate these requests.
12 Hosea Matthews (55)
Hosea was Dutch Van Der Linde’s right-hand man for a reason. Not only does he happen to be 11 years his elder, but Hosea was also one of the few people that could out-scoundrel Dutch, which he viewed as invaluable.
Many members of the gang looked up to Hosea thanks in part to his age as well as his wisdom and intelligence. The fact that he, at 55, and Lenny, who happened to be only 19, are buried together symbolically represents the life cycle of the life of a gang member in the Wild West.
11 Dutch Van Der Linde (44)
Dutch, the leader of the gang with his last name attached, happens to be 44-years-old. He was born in 1855, and if it wasn’t for his run-in and friendship with Hosea Matthews, he would have been the elder statesman of the gang.
He’s always been more clever than smart, and once the Saint-Denis failure occurs, it becomes apparent he’s losing his way mentally. Some fans think it’s due to age, while many others believe the Saint-Denis accident gave Dutch brain damage that slowly deteriorated his mental state over time.
10 Micah Bell (39)
Micah is considered by many to be the real villain of Red Dead Redemption 2, and once you finish the game, you’ll likely fall in the same camp. It’s interesting how Micah happens to be older than Arthur, and that might be why Dutch Van Der Linde begins to fall for Micah’s rouse.
Dutch is someone who values experience, but he also happens to be losing it throughout the game, so maybe age is irrelevant. Most people will roll their eyes when they hear Micah is 39, as he often portrays himself as a teenager throwing a temper tantrum.
9 Arthur Morgan (36)
8 Bill Williamson (33)
Bill happens to have his birth date available on the Red Dead Wiki, which pegs his birth year in 1866. This means that he is 33 for the entirety of Arthur Morgan’s journey and is one of the few characters that appear in both games in the franchise.
Arthur and Hosea Matthews present themselves as respectable and aged men, whereas Bill is the angry curmudgeon who is irritated by the world around him. This wasn’t a result of aging as he’s seen acting this way from the earliest parts of the game.
7 Charles Smith (27)
For as experienced and resourceful as he is, it happens to be quite surprising that Charles Smith is only 27-years-old during the game’s story. He has such a level head and is always working to do right by those he trusts most.
Charles is the type of person who is believed to have been born with an old soul that provides him with understanding and maturity beyond his years. His age isn’t confirmed, but rather is a product of deduction when looking at his upbringing as well as his heritage.
6 John Martson (26)
Though John and the game’s main protagonist Arthur Morgan are often painted as equals and brothers, their age difference is rather apparent when maturity, or lack thereof, begins to shine. By the time the game’s credits roll, it’s clear that Arthur was as much a brother in arms with John as he was an older role model and source of sage wisdom.
Arthur knew John had his whole life ahead of him and wanted him to know he had enough time to get away from the gang and make an honest life for him and Abigail.
5 Molly O’Shea (Mid-20s)
Molly O’Shea was a fiery Irish woman who was a member of the Van der Linde gang, and the lover of its leader, Dutch van der Linde. Though it’s unclear just how old she was, it’s safe to say she was likely in her mid-20’s before her death in 1899.
It was rumored that O’Shea was born to a wealthy family and simply moved to the United States from Ireland to seek adventure. Sadly, she was killed and presumed to be a rat among the gang, feeding information to the Pinkertons, but it was later revealed the rat was Micah Bell.
4 Sadie Adler (25)
3 Abigail Marston (22)
When fans first met Abigail in Red Dead Redemption, she was already an older mother and wife who had come into her own as an adult. The fact that she’s one of the youngest Van Der Linde Gang members in the sequel helps showcase her journey alongside her husband John Marston.
She happens to be 22 years old during the main story, and fans get to see her age into maturity in the epilogue of the game as she happens to be 30 by the time those events go into motion.
2 Lenny Summers (19)
If you never really paid attention to the dialogue exchanges at your camp, or simply missed one, Arthur makes it clear that Lenny isn’t even 20 years old. That’s what made Lenny’s relationship with Hosea Matthews so special.
The fact that they were buried next to one another helped symbolize the life of the Wild West in a nutshell. One outlaw was able to live a long and rich life, but as times were changing, it became apparent that the days of the lifelong career outlaw were starting to become impossible.
1 Jack Marston (8)
Before the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, most considered Jack Marston to be a miniature version of John Marston, with a bit clearer of a moral compass. It turns out that Arthur Morgan played a big role in Jack’s life, teaching him about fishing and what loyalty means.
At just 4 years old he lives among the Van der Linde gang, being cared for by several of the members. He likely saw many things a child shouldn’t, but nothing could have prepared him for what he had to witness the government do to his father.NEXT: Red Dead Redemption 2: The Best Van Der Linde Gang Members, Ranked By Personality
