Following the announcement that Red Dead Redemption was coming to the Xbox One via backwards compatibility, sales of the open-world western have soared by nearly 6000%.

Ever since its release in 2010, Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption has been deemed a classic by many fans, so much so that it is easily one of the top games of the last generation. While not everyone has the chance to play the game, this will soon be rectified following Rockstar Game’s recent announcement that its acclaimed open-world title would be coming to Xbox One by the way of the console’s backwards compatibility program. While the game won’t be available until July 8, it appears that this news has already had an immediate effect on the game’s sales.

This massive sales spike for Red Dead Redemption will undoubtedly see the game soar past its last recorded sales tally of 14 million, and this underlines just how enduringly popular the Red Dead series is. Perhaps this positive fan reception to the open-world western’s move to the Xbox One could spur Rockstar Games to finally bring Red Dead Redemption over to PC.

Now that Red Dead Redemption is finally making its way over to the Xbox One following a series of backwards compatibility issues, this will undoubtedly reignite speculation over whether or not Rockstar Games is currently working on a new Red Dead game. However, despite countless rumors, until Rockstar announces anything pertaining to the existence of a new Red Dead game, players will just have to make do with an Xbox One backwards compatible version of Red Dead Redemption for now.

But given the positive reception to Red Dead Redemption‘s official involvement with Xbox One’s backward compatibility program, perhaps this is a positive sign that there’s still life in the series yet.

Red Dead Redemption is out now for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and will be coming to Xbox One’s backward compatibility program on July 8, 2016.
