One of the best cartoons of animation’s golden age, was Courage the Cowardly Dog. The show’s fandom shows up in many places, including a recent tribute to the show in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
As is the case with many talented and dedicated New Horizons players, one player used the toolsets in the game to recreate Courage the Cowardly Dog’s eclectic intro.
The tribute, by Reddit user Homemade Martian, can be seen below.
Aptly titled “Cookie, The Cowardly Dog!” for replacing the pink Courage with a similarly-colored Cookie, the intro accurately replicates the intro for the show. From the retro TV set to the isolated house with a windmill in the background, the clip is highly reminiscent of the show’s intro.
The villagers both look like the owners of Courage in the show, Ustus and Muriel. They are dressed like the characters and have similar expressions. Even the tribute intro’s ending, where Ustus puts a mask on to scare Courage, is identical to that of the show’s.
Courage the Cowardly Dog still stands as a classic show for many old-school Cartoon Network fans. Running from 1999 to 2002, the show ran alongside the likes of Ed, Edd ’n Eddy, Dexter’s Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, and many more shows fondly remembered by children of the era. Perhaps those shows will get some Animal Crossing: New Horizons-related love next.
It turns out that the many of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ apparel and appearance options allow for some impressive tributes to a variety of things in pop culture. Not only has the music video for “Never Gonna Give You Up” been recreated, but a popular scene from The Office was given a tribute. Further, a plethora of outfit designs highly resemble those of non-Animal Crossing properties. Everything from Naruto to Final Fantasy to Dragon Ball Z has been shown love via the ability to create intricate outfit designs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
It’s only a matter of time before another crossover is featured via the imagination of more skilled Animal Crossing: New Horizons players.
