The Mortal Kombat subreddit has been ablaze recently, after several copies of a forbidden YouTube video appeared on the website. The video contains voice work for Mortal Kombat 11 characters, by the actors who portrayed them in the 1995 film. The leak suggests a movie cast voice pack is on the way, and Warner Bros. is not happy about it.
The leak was originally posted by the channel IX - MK11 Videos on YouTube, who wanted to share datamined information relating to MK11 voice work. Characters Raiden, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade can be heard speaking some intro lines, however the actors behind them are from the cult classic movie. Christopher Lambert, Linden Ashby and Bridgette Wilson are heard echoing character lines, and fans of the fighting game believe that this suggests future voice packs.
Warner Bros. immediately brought its fatality down on the original YouTube video that was blocked for copyright, but of course, Reddit is now home to multiple copies. A second part of the datamined voice work has since been released by the same YouTube user on Reddit, that contains additional lines from the movie actors.
The dataminer accompanied the video with a statement that confirmed the alternate work being done for the aforementioned characters, as well as Spawn, Sindel and Robocop. The statement also highlighted that Warner Bros. had reached out to the user via email, but the user clarified that the leaked information had not been shared to gain popularity, but rather to share a passion for the game.
Fans are convinced that the leaked voice work hints at a possible 1995 movie cast voice pack, especially since NetherRealm returned actor Hiroyuki Tagawa to the role of Shang Tsung for MK 11. Tagawa portrayed the shapeshifting sorcerer in the movie directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, and his reprising role in the eleventh installment of the video game series gives credence to the rumored voice pack. Warner Bros. and NetherRealm are yet to confirm, but fans are expecting some news that will break the radio silence since the release of the Aftermath expansion in May.
The datamined video also supports a previous leak that seemed to confirm the arrival of movie variants for the aforementioned characters, as well as Liu Kang and Kitana. The same leak also mentioned the arrival of Harley Quinn, Smoke, Takeda, Michael Myers, Mileena, and Sektor as new DLC characters.
