The fifth major update for post-apocalyptic survival city-builder Endzone - A World Apart has been added, bringing with it new game mechanics to help combat radiation. Two new buildings have also been added, along with new settler avatars, new side missions and expeditions, and a host of Early Access tweaks and bug fixes.

Avid Endzone players will also note that the new update now allows the game to support custom keybindings and distinct keyboard layouts, adding a new level of ease to the gameplay. Alas, a new savegame system is being implemented with this update, which means our old save game files will no longer work, once again. However, the new system should make for noticeably faster save and load times.

In the Radiation Update post on the Endzone Steam Community page, the devs state they noticed the problems we were having with fighting against and protecting our citizens from the constantly growing radiation. The new changes devised and added with this update should help to manage radiation exposure better, as long as our settlements are built with a solid infrastructure and supporting technologies.

The Decontamination Post, one of the newly added buildings, is designed to specifically counter and eliminate the radiation threat in our settlements. The decon post houses the new profession Decontaminator, who produces Decontamination Kits that are sent out to other buildings in settlements with inventory space, except Cultivated Fields and Orchards, which do have inventory space but are not counted as buildings. We’ll be using up a lot of these decon kits, so it’s a good idea to dedicate an entire Warehouse to their storage.

The Mine is the second new building, which can be placed next to mountains to mine for coal or the new resource iodine. A Medical Facility will take that iodine and use it to make Iodine Tablets, which can then be taken by settlers to reduce and eliminate radiation poisoning.

Endzone can now be played with Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese languages, all settler avatars have been completely replaced with new and improved ones, and eight side missions and four new Expeditions have been added. A UI effect can now be toggled to highlight all buildings of the same type while in Build Mode. The game engine itself has been updated from Unity 2019.2 to 2019.4 LTS, which includes numerous engine bug fixes and sets up the dev team to better handle future bugs.

The Radiation Update patch notes post has the full detailed rundown on all the latest tweaks and additions, along with the Endzone Early Access Roadmap with a hint of what to expect in the future. Endzone: A World Apart is available for PC on Steam and GOG.com.
