Remnant: From the Ashes is not a game known for being easy. In fact, it’s just the other way around. This game gathers heavy inspiration from the Dark Souls series and it shows, in a positive way. These types of games, otherwise known in the community as “souls-like” games, can be incredibly punishing. This game takes it a step further when it introduced Hardcore Mode.
This game’s Hardcore Mode introduces a “perma-death” system. Once you die in the game, you’ll have to start the game all over again. For a difficult game, this system is highly terrifying, but it is not impossible if you know what you’re doing.
10 Vigor Is Your Best Friend
In the game’s Hardcore Mode, the room for error is as narrow as it can be. Prioritizing your health stats is one of the best ways to ensure your survival in this harrowing endeavor.
Sure, every single trait is incredibly useful in its own ways in this game, but for Hardcore Mode, you’re going to want to prioritize the Health trait in particular. A higher health pool means you’ll be able to take more hits, which allows you to step back, recollect, heal, and push through once again.
9 Play In Normal Difficulty First
While playing Hardcore Mode, you don’t necessarily have to play in the highest difficulty for you to receive the rewards that can only be earned in this mode. In fact, it’s better if you play with normal difficulty first if you’re simply after the rewards.
If you really want to play this mode for the challenge it brings forth, then by all means, play it on Nightmare difficulty. Keep in mind, though, this game’s “normal” difficulty is already challenging as it is, so you might as well start with that.
8 Know When And When Not To Explore Further
One of the best things about Remnant: From the Ashes is the opportunity for its players to explore. The areas in this game are rich with materials for you to use to upgrade, among other things. In Hardcore Mode, however, you may want to keep this liberty in check.
Assess each situation and figure out if a specific location is worthwhile to explore. Keep in mind, once you’re out, you’re out for good. So, if you have no healing materials left, or your health bar is low, tread lightly. Prioritize looking for Dragon Hearts or Bloodworts.
7 Don’t Forget Your Melee Weapon
Remnant: From the Ashes may be more known as a shooter game, but the melee weapons you can find and wield in the game are no dull blades. For the Hardcore Mode, you can take even more advantage of the melee weapons in the game as it allows you to conserve your bullets.
There are a ton of melee weapons, from hammers to swords, that you can wield to deal with the myriad of monsters in Remnant: From the Ashes. You should start getting used to using them in combat in case you run short of bullets. They’re most especially handy against small minions.
6 Play Either A Hunter Or Ex-Cultist
If you don’t consider yourself a veteran of the game or the genre and just want to try out the Hardcore Mode for yourself, opting for either the Hunter or Ex-Cultist classes is a very good tip to follow.
Choosing one from these two classes are great because of their starting items. For the Ex-Cultist, you can really benefit from the Mender’s Aura mod, which allows you to heal 12.5 Health per second for 10 seconds. The Hunter class will also make it easier for you to deal with enemies from afar at the beginning.
5 Break Everything
In a game like Remnant: From the Ashes, especially while playing it in Hardcore Mode, you will need every material you can get your hands on. The best way to do this is by breaking every single breakable that you can encounter. You never know what materials you might find lurking inside those things.
Consider the act of breaking every breakable material in the game as good practice when playing this game. Do this to the point that you get used to it. It will serve you well in the long run.
4 Use Bullets Sparingly And Prioritize Longer Ranged Weapons
This goes hand in hand with the idea of being familiar with your melee weapons. The availability of ammo varies from moment to moment in this game. Don’t allow yourself to run out of them if you’re playing Hardcore Mode.
Make sure every single one of your shots counts. This may be easier said than done but it is something you must master if you want to get through the Hardcore Mode. Better yet, prioritize longer-ranged weapons so you can get rid of enemies from afar. Whenever minions start to get close, you can then make use of your melee weapons.
3 Know Each Bosses’ Weaknesses
A lot of the bosses in the game come with a unique weakness. There are also alternative ways of dealing with some bosses in which you can complete the task without necessarily fighting them. If you want to power through Hardcore Mode effectively, you better get familiar with these weaknesses and alternatives. This will make the boss fights so much smoother and easier.
For example, The Ent’s weak spot is located on its back. You can also put the Ravager to sleep by playing the lullaby by firing at the bells outside the boss room.
2 Use Mods, Rings, And Amulets
There is a wide array of mods, rings, and amulets that you can use in this game so you can overcome the plethora of challenges thrown at you better. There are so many in this game and some of the most powerful ones can actually be earned as rewards by playing Hardcore Mode.
Make sure you make use of these powerful materials as you go further in the game while playing Hardcore Mode. A lot of these can be earned by defeating bosses. Make sure you read their description as soon as you pick them up.
1 Co-op
One of the best ways to overcome this onerous game is by making use of its multiplayer service. A lot of players argue that it is so much better to play this game with other players and it’s tough to refute this argument.
If you have friends who are also playing this game, make sure you play together with them. There can be three of you in one party and that’s more than enough to help you on your journey.
