Remnant: From The Ashes is going to be free on the Epic Games Store very soon, and we very much recommend you get it.

Look, we get that Epic is still a bit of a dirty word around some PC gamers, but free games are free games. Whatever moral outrage gamers might have had about Epic singing exclusivity agreements with publishers and developers can’t possibly withstand the onslaught of the word “free.” Especially when those games are quality.

Such as Remnant: From The Ashes. The 2019 hit release from Gunfire Games will be free to own on the Epic Games Store from August 13 to August 20, which means all you need to do is press the download button and you get to keep it forever.

We totally recommend you grab Remnant: From The Ashes while the grabbing’s good. It’s a Soulslike, so if you’re not a huge fan of that style of gameplay you should at least focus on the third-person shooting aspects of Remnant instead. You could still opt for melee weapons, but imagine if you could shoot guns in Dark Souls? Ranged attacks are where it’s at.

Levels are procedurally generated, there are tons of bosses and enemies to slay, and the first DLC–Swamp of Crosus–really expanded Remnant by adding a roguelike mode too.

The second DLC, Subject 2923, arrives next week, so there’s even going to be a bunch of new content for you to enjoy if you download Remnant: From The Ashes. And if you have some friends, you can even enjoy the co-op play aspects of the game too.

Along with Remnant, Epic will offer The Alto Collection as a free offering starting on August 13. The atmospheric endless runner is nominally a mobile game, but the PC version is just as picturesque and serene as the mobile version. Snowboard down endless mountains or around barren deserts to a soundtrack that will surely mellow you out, dude.
